Windows 10 & Sto. Is it worth downloading win10???

Hi guys. The last time I downloaded windows 10, I had problems with Sto, so am abit apprehensive about trying it again.
Is it worth it, downloading windows 10, and do most players find it works ok????
If a dev can answer this, it would be helpful please.

I switched to Win 10 shortly after it released and I didn't have any issues running STO on it. If you have problems it is most likely connected to your graphic card driver. Always worth it to see if an older version works. There are guides on how to prevent Windows Update from automatically installing the latest version.

I'd say give it a try.

At first, I also had some issues with Win 10 but over the past few months, no problems running the game. The issues I had were patched both on STO and from my hardware drivers getting updated over time.

I got 10 last night. Once all of the drivers and patches were downloaded and installed everything worked fine.

STO runs perfectly fine under Windows 10. :)

Win 10 is fine with the game provided you've also updated your drivers. On a side note, my 5 year old laptop works better with Win 10 than it did with 7 as it takes up less memory!

I'll also vouch for windows 10.

I've had my problems with STO since installing, but thats standard fare for STO and had nothing to do with W 10 :pensive:

No problems on Windows 10. I downloaded it when it first became available and it has been solid.

Seems fine, I get the same Dx Graphics CTD error in Windows 10 that I got on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1.

That reminds me, gimp everything once you get 10 installed. Especially Cortana. Your bandwidth and brain power will be eaten within minutes.

You can find everything invasive in much the same spot but it's easy to turn them all off.

i run sto with windows 10 on both my laptop and my desktop, no problems with either installation.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

If you are on a Radeon graphics card and get the "gameclient.exe has stopped working" crash try the foloowing

    https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/3cy7xc/launching_the_game_in_dx9/

    Worked for me.

Win 10 however i find a right royal pain in the wotsits.

Don't know about STO, but considering the epic scam that is Windows 10, Micro$oft would have to pay me quite handsomely before I'd even consider ruining a perfectly good computer with it.

And no, a bunch of websites claiming to know how to turn off all the scam features (that they know about) doesn't really help any.

I am a little concerned with Cortana that collects your activity and transmits it back to microsoft, all of it. if i decide to move upto windows 10, it will be a clean installation of software, no upgrading and cortana and IE would be the first things to be turned off and in IE's case, files removed to keep it from working (IE is a massive security risk in itself), make sure to get a home retail version and not the OEM version.

anyways, stuck with windows 7 until i can get some money together for win 10. I am also looking to get a decent sized SSD as well and the only problems i should have from that point is the damned internet connection. i can not upgrade that until BT stops monopolizing the new optic network.

Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
