"Increased the maximum auction price of 500,000,000 Energy Credits to 750,000,000 Energy Credits."

This needs to be decreased to help reduce the amount of GREED in the game. No single item in the game is worth more then 100mil.

    Let's just say for a moment, that Cryptic lowered the EC Cap on the exchange to 20k EC. Do people really think that's going to drive down the price of the things people really want? :p

    If such a case happened, the valuable stuff will simply not be sold on the Exchange and will instead be done through Player-to-Player trades, exchanges.

    Plasmonic Leech Box will still be expensive.

    Premium Ships are still going to be expensive.

    Some of those Box Traits are still going to be expensive.

    Keys, FSMs will still cost decent coin.

    These and other things would still be sold off the Exchange even with a lower cap and will not drive prices down with that cap.

    The limit should be removed, and the account EC cap should be raise to 10 bil for gold, 1 bil for silver.

    Sorry OP, you just don't understand economics.

    Look at the price of a key in EC. Look at the price of the Herald Baltim Heavy Raider (lobi ship) in EC. Lock at how many lock boxes you need to open to get the lobi to buy that ship from the lobi store instead. The EC price is lower.

    Why is the Vomph much more? The Herald lock box blog post describes it as "incredibly rare" and it is. There have been several complain threads here from people who have spent $100-300 using keys to open lock boxes and still did not get one. The EC prices are high but with selling keys for EC your chance becomes 100%.

    Prices are what they are because of math, not greed.

    As others have said before - things that are worth "more" than the exchange cap will sell - and possibly for higher than they're 'really' worth, because there's no visible outstanding system to "show" the set price...

    there is a lot of ec still floating around from back when they actually let us farm for ec. sigh i miss when we could do that. now trying to get ec from drops is just a waste of time.

    So you want more things off the transparent market and into shadow markets of zone spam and personal trades?

    Here is the simple terms of it.

    If the legitimate Exchange gets more restricted, then more players start turning to black markets.

    If the legitimate Exchange gets more available to high-value items, then black markets start to lose traffic.

    So, here is the question you need to ask. Do you support legitimate business, or are you in favour of conducting deals with cartels, and operating black markets?

    they need to lower the trade amount you can do to , to 750,000,000 mill that will stomp the greed right there or just cap it at a flat 500 mill exchange and personal trade 2.

    Let me give you an example. The chances of getting a Vonph Dreadnought out of a lockbox are 1/350. That means on average players will have to use 350 master keys for one Vonph. That's 395'750 Zen. Those ships are currently selling at around 600m EC. In contrast if a player sold these 350 keys he could have made 1,575b EC. Where exactly is the greed here? That ship is a bargain. If you wanted prices to get artificially lowered to your liking YOU woud be the greedy one.

    It's worth what people will pay for it. Lowering the limit will make it worse. Every lockbox and lobi ship will not be on the exchange, and private sellers will be free to list absurd prices in the lack of any visible competition.

    Wether or not you personally agree with a pure capitalist economical system like STO's in-game economy has means you can still inform yourself how that model works. The exchange cap has nothing to do with prices. Inflation, demand, supply and possibly cartels influence the pricing of highly desireable items. Items way below the cap won't get more expensive because the cap is raised and items currently sold above the cap won't get cheaper because they weren't sold in the exchange in the first place.​​

    I hate to burst your bubble, but those players that are paying over 100 mil for items will disagree with you. And has it every occurred to you why there are little to no Vonph dreadnoughts on the exchange? That would be because the 500mil limit on the exchange means that these items along with a certain others are being sold via private trades.

    I would like to put an idea forward for you OP, if your willing to take up the challenge? Buy a 100mil ec worth of keys and start opening lock boxes, and see if you get a Vonph. I was in possession of two, one purchased for EC for friend that cost 750mil and the second I won from the lock box. The first high level ship I've gotten from the boxes i might add. When you begin to realize the odds of obtaining certain items from the boxes, then you'll appreciate the cost involved.

    Edit : And I just remembered the limit was reduced because if memory serves and I'm sure someone else can confirm this, but the limit was or is 1 billion on tribble.​​

    Yeah, I play another game where exchange prices are limited and it sucks because it just means that to buy expensive stuff you need to actually find someone willing to sell it. Higher price caps in the exchange would seem to be a necessary evil.

    I'm disappointed they didn't remove it completely (=set it to 1b like the EC storage limit) like they did on tribble.

    Having a price limit makes no sense whatsoever.

    Ehn, M.B.A.-grad-who-read-too-much-Friedman fantasy economics with a virtual world of infinite resources to buy vanity items? The wealth gap in this case is not really a problem, IMO. There are no disgruntled admirals joining Space ISIL (The True Way, maybe?)... as far as I know.

    I'll tell you what's *really* wrong with the exchange: Mirror ships costing millions instead of being the cheap cosmetic item I was used to get when I didn't like the ship shape but liked the ship stats. Tis a deep shame upon the community, it is.

    Mirror ships cost millions because thanks to Admiralty they're actually very useful now, rather than just alternate versions of the freebies you get leveling up.

    The thing is there is no consistency with policies here. With some aspects of this game the developers try to create balance between possibilities for "new" and "old" players, unlike here where the balance goes (again) in favour of "old" (rich-est) players. Prices are definitely too high already. Not to mention the problem of resseling items for higher price just to make profit and not actually use the items. How about this solution: items once bought on the exchange cannot be sold again (become bound or something like that)? However, in rl we have same situations. Greed and other flaws, vices, sins, call it whatever you like, will always be there. Let us just not feed the greed.

    Reality check: 350 keys cost 39375 zen in the c-store. That would be roughly 400 USD.

    That's what I get for not fact-checking someone else's math. <facepalm>

    So the "updated" fact is that $400 and a good stretch of exchange-selling is more than enough to make one a space-billionare, and more than capable of owning whatever they want. More whales then... :)
