When I was first going through story missions, there were a few that were frustrating to me, but that was only because I was being lazy and not actively using my mind to change my tactics effectively, in order to complete the missions.

Mostly this. There are a few missions I had troubles with on my first playthrough and dreaded replaing them with my later toons, but when they came around most (not all) of them weren't that bad after all. You will get better at the game when playing it. Of course every so often you need to adapt to new enemy types and their new strategies/abilities. Most mentioned here are the Vaadwaur and the Iconian ships with solar gates. But that's mostly "one strategy of fighting doesn't fit all enemies" (unless you have a very strong build and/or are very good in general).

Also (already mentioned) an observation I made with some players with whom I played through missions: take your time, don't rush if you are having troubles. Aggro only one group then slightly retreat so you can fight them alone and not everybody at once. And don't enter the next combat area immediately after finishing one - let your cooldowns cool down and (in space) get your ship's hull and shield back up before going in.

And every other line mentioned here I find more aggravating than Kurland. Don't you dare to diss Kurland. He's a friend of mine.

I'm sorry but Captain Paris exceeds Kurland in that Delta Flight Mission. You don't make the 12 second or whatever countdown on a ring and he spams a Dialog Box you need to address where he says 'Let's go' or some other such nonsense.

I ran that Mission the first time on a Romulan and I believe that, that Dialog box broke Cloak.

It is a good thing there is only one item of any sort of value in that Mission as a Reward.
