When I started I was a decent cruiser player, I could take my assault and tank two Klingon Carriers in fleet actions, as a tactical. Later on picked up the Escort and tore things apart. I know how beams work, and I know how to use cannons as a tact, and rip into things. My problem however is all this new instant, unforeseen burst damage from npcs. I will try to be exact. My tier five refit light warbird had full shields and hull as at about 92 percent, the difficulty was normal, and suddenly the enemy ship explodes and my ship explodes. I am good but how in the blazes do you counter something like that? For the record I was no where near the ship that exploded. On my cruisers, yes one of them was a tier six, the same thing happened, but in that case the only item that saved my hide, was the large hull points. My question to everyone here is this normal? Sudden unseen huge bursts of damage. Is this simply lag spikes in the game, or something more? I am asking not to complain, but because I really need to make up my mind which direction to take my tactical. Either cruiser or escort variant. Yes I know they war warbirds, and yes I know how to use a warbird. I can not fight huge sudden bursts of damage, that I have no chance of seeing. If I cant solve this problem, then their is no way I can get back to fighting on elite like it was before Delta Rising. If anyone has come across this particular problem please put down what you did to solve it thanks.

How you fly your ship, park n shoot is out speed tanking is in.
Ship setup detail, in particular those specialisation points make a huge difference, also some specialisation skills, traits etc. Having say 40+ spec points rather than say 3 is a big deal.
I have a bunch of ships and don't have surviveability issue with my roms when using a single neutronium, valdore console and moving about, cloaking and decloaking. The roms have the valdore console on a 1k zen ship and kdf aligned roms the leech on another.
