Who is your favorite Klingon?

goodscotchgoodscotch Member Posts: 1,680 Arc User
From any of the series or movies.

I really liked Captain Korris in "Heart of Glory." Great episode! The actor who portrayed him, Vaughn Armstrong, did a great job. He's had so many roles in Star Trek.

    Worf, Kurn, Martok, Gowron, Chang.

    All extremely memorable Klingons.

    Oh, and Kor.

And from the books, a female Klingon from the novel "Sarek" called Valdyr. Very well written and honorable character.

Gowron. How do we get his crazy-man-oogly-eyes in the game?
    Time Travel.

I am not sure if he's really my favorite, but he was memorable. Much more so than Duras.
Gowron wasn't a "good" Klingon, but he might represent the decay and decadence of the Klingon Empire better than anyone else. He wasn't just plain murder-the-hot-klingon-chick-worf-is-dating-and-sins-of-his-father kind of evil. He had ambition and used honor and glory just as a way to achieve power and influence for himself, not the Klingon Empire. But while he did all that, he didn't really overstep - he worked within the confines of the system, without obvious treachery or cowardly assassination (unless it was him that killed his predecessors and not Duras).
Also, almost unrelated, he had cool crazy eyes.

Martok of course takes the top spot. The no-name no prestige Ketha-lowlander despite Kor's mark against him becomes an officer, a general, even chancellor. I like stories of people with nothing taking the top spot. Worf after that, as I do like his more disciplined nature. Kurn, Kahless, Grilka, and Jadzia's new friend in DS9:Soldier of the Empire.

In my own version of Grethor I have the whole Duras family, the warden at Rura Penthe in ST:VI and Chang.

a few links imbeded to point out my thoughts.

i did like martok except for his one failing. his kinship with worf. while its great what Mr Dorn is doing to promote and help the Klingons evolves now and in the past the char of Worf i have never liked. with a few possible exceptions in episodes where he actually acted like a Klingon instead of a tamed dog on a federation leash.

but Martoks strong point was his marrige to a stong and proud female Klingon in sirella.

Kor, one of the TOS era Klingons and was last shown in DS9 / Dominion War timeframe. A great warrior, leader and had the chance to confront James T. Kirk. It almost came to a shooting war but the two never got the war they wanted due to the Organians. Anyways, through his appearances, we see, hear about his glory, his lows, and ultimately the best way an old, esteemed warrior can go out.

Outside Kor, Martok is right there. Oh how I wish Martok was still Chancellor of the Klingon Empire.

Who doesn't like a peaceful Klingon that lived long enough in a "warrior's time" to become Chancellor without firing a shot?

Martok. Everything about him just screams "I am Klingon! Drink with me, and share stories of our greatest battles!"

Solid character, brought to life by an incredible actor. He's the model Klingon for me. Battle-hardened, as true to honour as he can be, a larger-than-life presence, and one hell of a sense of humour.

    Martok.

I believe having him in-game may not be impossible.
Butterfly introduced changes, so it can't be too much of a stretch to have Martok cede or vacate his position instead of being killed.
    If that happened at all.

i think people should list how old they are when answering a question like this. I was a fan of Klingons long before ds9 or even tng came out some of the newer Klingons did over take older favorites though. but really why i say that it would just be interesting the amount of trek experience and age ranges that particular chars attract among the fan base.

It would have been interesting if Martok had never been killed. He rode a fine line when he was Chancellor and is moderate compared to J'mpok. I wonder if the Federation-Klingon War would have been averted if he had been Chancellor still. I figured he still had a lot of ties with the Federation due to his position from the Dominion War, to figure something out to prevent the war. Maybe the temperament to get the Federation to see the Empire's views at the time about the 8472 threat.

I'd like to say the idea behind the last sentence would have been a worthwhile one, but if the Federation still has their head in the sand on the species 8472 threat he will be in quite a tight spot.

It didn't help that J'mpok is Fire and Brimstone leadership. I think Martok would been moderate in tone enough to get the Federation to listen. At least a better chance of that.

Honourable mentions (what else?) have to go to Koloth and Antaak, for showing diversity. Koloth was played with great charm by William Campbell as a suave joker, apparently written as Kirk's Klingon counterpart. Antaak, from ENT: Affliction / Divergence, is one of the few examples we've got of a non-warrior Klingon hero.

Kang had too much human in him for my liking. for him winning was not everything. he had more feelings for family and crew, honorable as that may be it was far too Human. But then again his story came well before the Klingon lore and been dished out a little heavier. but hindsight is 20/20.
