Q's Winter Wonderland

glenn#1579 glenn Member Posts: 275 Arc User
Sorry to be so dumb but I have been ploughing through the posts and the Wiki and the notices to find out one simple thing. Where the hell is Q's Winter Wonderland?

One of the notices seemed to indicate that it was on Earth Space Dock but I have searched the place from top to bottom.

It doesn't start till tomorrow I don't think.

The Wonderland won't be available until tomorrow, but it will be VERY obvious when you see it. Q will be sitting in a large floating chair, talk to him and you'll be transported to the winter map. IIRC it will be just outside the Exchange on ESD.

Out of curiousity, where will it be for Klingon aligned characters?
  • jbmaverickjbmaverick Member Posts: 935 Arc User
It's been a while since I played my KDF characters during a Winter Event, but I believe it's just outside the Great Hall entrance, near where Worf is standing.

Cheers peeps. Haven't been playing for long so these things are new to me.

Yep I'll be running this on my KDF Engineer. Can't wait too

It's worth noting that you don't actually have to talk to Q to reach the Wonderland. There should be an option to go there directly by accessing the calendar info for the event. I believe leaving the event map will place you at your faction's respective entry point, so you could theoretically use it as a secondary Transwarp "home" as well.

There really isn't a "recommended" level for the event as what combat-related content there is doesn't factor in your skills and uses special equipment. If you plan on participating in the various snowman events that happen (sounds like 3 different events each hour this year) I highly recommend picking up at least one winter weapon. My personal favorites are the dual pistols and "snowblower" (works like a flamethrower), but there's a winter weapon for pretty much every type of standard weapon in the game, even melee weapons this time around, so pick your favorite. Without one of these weapons, you'll have to collect snowballs from the piles scattered around the map and equip them as a consumable device. Normal weapons are disabled in the Wonderland so thrown snowballs and winter weapons are the only things that can hurt snowmen. Most armors will have little to no effect against their retaliatory snowballs so don't worry overmuch about what you have equipped. They can't "kill" you but when you run out of health you'll be momentarily frozen in place (literally), after a few seconds you'll thaw out and recover your health to continue fighting. The snowman events are the primary means of acquiring the various ornament currency items, which are then used to buy most of the special event items except the new ship. This does mean you won't be able to get a weapon immediately as they require those currencies, but just fight a few snowman battles and you should have enough for one. They're all the same cost (or at least I assume the new ones will be the same cost as the old ones) so again, pick whatever weapon type you like.

For the rest of the content, your level (and more importantly your Specializations) *should* have absolutely no effect. Movement speed buffs from all sources are supposed to be removed for ice races (I believe there may have been a single lingering one that got through for the Summer event but I'm not sure) and there's nothing else I can think of that could have any effect on any of the content.

Will there be a transwarp on the overview/mission menu like there was for Risa, or is it only possible to get there from a capital city?

It doesn't sound like there used to be one - wasn't around last year so I don't know for sure - but they might have changed things this year. I suppose we'll just have to wait until maintenance is done and see for ourselves.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I remember there being one last year and if that memory is correct I see no reason it won't be included this year as well.

AFAIK all PASSIVES from traits and gear DO work. No powers are activatable, but passives work fine.

You're right, I forgot that anything that increases health or grants health regen work, although that might only get you one extra snowball to the face. I'm not sure if there are any passives that reduce the type of damage snowmen do (I don't think it's standard Cold damage). It bypasses shields entirely so those types of passives are all moot and they do so much damage resistances might not be enough to make a difference. The Ice Boots definitely work when you're not in combat but they just match the effect of actually being on the ice track and don't stack with it. I think the winter weapons are in their own special category along with the snowman attacks so I'm not sure if damage can be modified, but maybe the Commando Specialization's ability to reduce secondary fire cooldowns could work. Are there any other traits and passives you can think of?

Okay. I have a new question about this whole winter event. I'm there. I talked to Q. I'm ready to start collecting all the little winter tokeny things, but what seems to be missing is the way to pick up those little missions that lead to gathering all of those little winter tokeny things.

At the Summer Event, you could easily pick up all of those mission and fly around or run around or get transported to the right location in plenty of time to do the missions. Were the right mission givers were was easy to discover, but I'm totally lost. I just participated in a Snowball fight, but I never found the guy who gives out the mission, so I got nothing.

    In a word - HELP!

The various currencies other than the new voucher are primarily earned by participating in the snowman invasions. There's no mission to grab, just pick up some snowballs from the piles scattered around the map and whenever/wherever the snowmen become active, start throwing! Grab one of the snowball guns from the store once you can afford one and use that instead. The currencies should be automatically added to your inventory based on your participation level once the event completes, check your overflow inventory if they're not immediately visible and if all else fails submit a bug report. They're treated as standard inventory items like Borg Neural Processors, so "currencies" might be the wrong word.

Additionally, check your Duty Officer missions, several special ones should be available while you're in the wonderland and these can award the currencies as well.

Just finished Tides of Ice and did not get any new items for that either. Other than snowballs, there's nothing new in my inventory.

I found the DOFF missions. Got two going but it'll be another four hours before I see anything there.

I really don't know what to say then. See if you can ask anyone else during an invasion if they're getting the items at the end, I'm not in a position to check myself for a couple hours. Might come down to a "participation level" issue similar to the Badlands battlezone when it first came out, the threshold for participation is set too high because it's expected that everyone will have a winter gun (those snowballs don't even come close to comparing to a good snow cannon).

I finally got some. I was standing right next to the giant snowman when he went down and I got just enough "gifts" to get a pretty good snow-gun. Now I'm ready. :p Most of the other missions should be easier now.

Are skates a clothing item? I keep seeing skaters on the ice.

They're called the Frosted Boots and should be available from the vendor. They're treated like a non-consumable ground device and even work outside of the Wonderland. When activated, normally they reduce your traction and increase your run speed in exactly the same way as when you're running the ice race, but when you're on that frozen pond in the middle of the Wonderland they'll begin functioning as ice skates instead.

Also with regards to the ornament currencies, I don't believe they're bound to character or account. You should be able to trade them with other players if you're short on one type and have plenty of another, and you could focus one player entirely on collecting them rather than needing to spread it around. That would mean needing only 1 winter weapon instead of multiples unless you feel like letting your other characters have some fun too.

Yes, that is precisely what the boots allow, including the acrobatic jumps. Those particular effects are only active while you're on that frozen pond though, at all other times it's like you're running around the ice track.

In other news, apparently I have to take back what I said earlier about movement buffs and the ice race. I participated in the PvP race and a tactical player with at least 5 different buffs active steamrolled the competition. If you plan to race, you may want to check to see if anyone present has any buffs active and set your expectations accordingly. Hopefully that gets addressed quickly.

Yeah, all my chars have at least 1 snow gun. It makes gathering stuff easier when I don't need to worry about IF I have a gun. I just wander around and blast things. One note I have to mention is that charge up secondaries are awkward to use when in a group combat since enemies might get taken out by someone else while charging. Charge up weapons are viable in group, but best to simply use the primary. These include Avalanche, the new syrup thing, and the icicle.

Yes, I've noticed that myself about the snow weapons in the past. The Snowblower is still resolutely my favorite for most content, but I have all of them and switch out a second one every once in a while. Hail can be a good backup for the lane defense, its short range isn't as much a problem if you're defending the spawn points. Occasionally I'll use the Sniper Rifle (can't recall its name) during the standard invasion so I can pick off individuals from further away. I haven't really compared the new Caramel one against the old Avalanche, wonder what the difference is since they're both effectively Blast Assaults. Avalanche used to be really good for taking out the massive group of snowmen at north end of the map when a standard invasion started, until they reduced its maximum target count. If you timed it right, you could use shooter mode to target the middle of the group and hit them just as they became active targets because of how the charge up worked.

It looks like the Lollipop Lirpa is a touch bugged at present, using the right slash causes it to transform into other weapons, including a Nanopulse Lirpa and a standard Bat'leth. I'm not sure if it affects its combat abilities, I've never really managed to get melee weapons to work for me to begin with.

Well, I just discovered the Pie Eating Contest. THAT should be the place any beginners should start. The mission giver is in the ginger bread village. If you find Neelex, just turn around to find the Breen in charge of the pies.

Some of the recipes cannot be completed. The ramp that now leads to the northern villages covers an area where some ingredients spawn.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

Yeah hopefully someones already reported this and it will be fixed on thursday..
