    But unless that enemy also spawns lots of AoEs, that's a problem for the cluebie, since he now has the aggro, doesn't he? (unless the lone wolf already got all the enemies attention.)

    After firing on an Elachi vessel it will often "jump" behind your ship, other cheek has been turned. Badlands BZ, Red Alerts (Tholian flavor), and that Borg DSE that can go into "overtime", are some examples of chaos where" turn the other cheek", "danger zone", and "thick of it" could be a good thing. Just the other day I was in the Badlands BZ and found myself accidently flying in formation with a Scimitar for nearly a minute. Then there are my Romulans. I use singularity jump and that means getting up close and personal with as many enemy ships as possible for maximum effect which means giving up "free hits" into possibly multiple shield facings as I approach the target. There are lots of situations where having the right tools can turn the tide of battle in your favor. The spec. pt. investment may seem like a waste until you get that "dividend check" in a future battle.
