Hey Cryptic, I hope everyone in the office had a great Thanksgiving. Once everyone gets back, I hope the team will take some time to revisit the BOFF layout and Trait on the Jupiter.
To put it succinctly: they're terrible.
The ship looks great, and the Callisto's are great, but the performance of the ship itself is awful. The rationale for making it a Science Carrier is fine, and I don't think there would be much argument that Science Carriers can be fun (see: the Annorax), but the current layout is nonsensical. The decision to base BOFF layout on the Atrox, which has one of the worst BOFF layouts in the game and no relation to the Jupiter other than being a Federation Carrier, is a huge mistake and should be corrected.
So, allow me to offer a suggestion: base the BOFF layout of the new Jupiter on the old Jupiter.
The Old Jupiter had Beam Fire at Will 3, Emergency Power to Shields III, Gravity Well II, Torpedo High Yield II, Torpedo Spread II, and Tractor Beam. Translate that into ship seating, and you get a Commander Science, Lt. Commander Tactical, Lt. Commander Engineering, Lt. Tactical, and a Universal Ensign. Still a Science Carrier, but one with a little bit of firepower and just as much durability.
Along with that, the Intel specialization makes no sense. This is not a stealthy space ship. It's designed to support other ships. What's the support specialization? COMMAND.
So, the final proposed new BOFF layout would be:
Commander Science
Lt Commander Tactical/Command
Lt Commander Engineering
Lt Tactical
Ens Universal
Now that is a MUCH better layout.
Now as for Insult To Injury, it doesn't fit thematically or operationally, especially now that we've eliminated the Intelligence seating. So, let me propose a new Starship Trait for the Jupiter: "Flight Control"
"Flight Control" Narrative: "The Jupiter-class Carrier represents the end result of the Federation's adaptations of Klingon carrier design to more peaceful ends. With the assistance of Caitian specialists, the Jupiter more effectively coordinates the activities of any carriers, frigates, or fighters in the area."
"Flight Control" Effect: All carrier launch bays on the same team as a Jupiter have reduced cooldowns, and all fighters and frigates gain slightly more damage and accuracy.
Essentially, it's a support oriented "Scramble Fighters".
Please Cryptic. I'm giving you my ideas for free. I want to love this ship, I honestly do. But the way it's built now, it's just not fun to fly.

People brought Zen for it and that was all that was wanted.
And I'm not only talking about Intel's OSS here.
to get the trait to work well you have get all your fighters out beyond 10k.. then move in right before you hit 10 k pop a intel skill so all your fighters get the buff before getting into combat.. once you get into under 10k they will use it... but in combat.. I swear they hardly ever use it.. so being on a 1 min cool down it becomes pretty worthless mid combat
