Yes, I wouldn't be able to take full advantage of the Kobali set since I wasn't around for that ship, neither was I around for the Delta Rising event, or every winter event that has ever happened though I'll be able to do this one.
I know everyone keeps saying the reputation sets are the best, that's pretty obvious, you know it and I know it, but my tactical character doesn't, I know which rep sets are ideal for Science as it's my main career.
I'm not fond of having to start off fresh from scratch, main reason why I only ever play one character ( Fed Science ). Some of these comments have been helpful, others brush off what I ask and give out the obvious answers ( rep sets ).
I am not worried about the reputation sets, I don't think I'll be able to get Iconian at all since the Iconians STFs are dead and the time it would take to grind the Mirror STFs for Iconian/8472/Delta marks let alone grind the marks needed to get the specific item needed to get ground/space sets would take too long.
personally, i don't use the iconian set, the stfs for the iconians are just a pain in the behind. I use 2 nukara pieces (deflector + engine); 2 pieces give an interesting boost at all damages, + a different shield (often aegis or Maco). it is easy to earn nukara marks and no need for stuff like the iconian probe datacore. for my latest toon, I used the sol defense shield + the deflector, before the nukara set,. the sol defense set, like I wrote in an other post, is a good set for tanking, and easy to get.
Use channels to do advanced/elite missions like PublicEliteSTF or the DPS channels which have mostly taken over.
If you have a nice active fleet do it with them which is the most fun. When events like the recent mirror invasion come around its very easy to get lots of marks.
If you need a good active fleet The 1st Fleet would be happy to have you.
Once you hit T5 in a reputation on any character you can craft a sponsorship token and give it to your other characters which let's you max their reputations in half the time.

Let's start with this. The different careers have slightly different playstyles. Tactical captains can bring the most damage out of any ship they're in, science captains debuff their enemies, and engineering captains have tanking abilities. Neither science or tactical captains should have any noticeable tanking capabilities over the other (assuming everything else about theirs builds is the same), as you seemed to think in your OP. However, most of your play-style will be based on your ship. (Tactical based ships are for dishing out damage, engineering based ships are for taking it, and science based ships can be used for debuffing/controlling/draining/healing/etc.) Usually, I choose what ship I want a captain to play at and-game, and choose a career that will cover that particular ship's weakness. (For example, if I want to use an escort that has few heals, I might put in an engineering captain.)
Also, not to derail the thread, but didn't it get boring playing just fed science? I got bored after my first three characters being tacs, so I made sure to make the next two something else.

Not at all, Science is my favorite career and I personally love astronomy and sciences related to space, I do have other characters, but they're also science, I have a Romulan that I don't really use and a KDF that I can't use ( says the server cannot be found ) though I don't like KDF either. I made a fed tactical character just to try something new.
But I don't have the kind of time or money like others players have to put into this game and play on 20+ characters like some I know have.
I'd rather not try and get another character to where my Science one is at. I've had my Science character for alittle over 3 years now. It would make things easier for my tactical if the mail was working, I can't send any good items I find on my Science to my tact, it won't let me attach items for some reason and I'm not a subscriber so I can't use the shared account bank either. My tact doesn't have permission to withdraw from the fleet bank either so I can't even send items that way, but my fleets dead so it's not like I can have someone promote or give her permission to withdraw anyway.
Aegis, Sol, or Kobali sets for defensive/tanking play. Aegis is usually available on the exchange (Shield, Deflector, and Engines) and is available for use at level 50. Rest are mission rewards.
Jem Hadar if using Polarons and a bit more of an aggressive play (the AP sweep ability is relatively short-ranged and forward arc, but it does let you follow even cloaked ships you hit with it, having them show up as a cloud of red and white dots; such as Donatra's Scimitar in the that one Borg Queue).
As far as the mail goes, were you at a mail console, not just clicking the icon on your mini map? You can't send our take out items in mail unless you use a console. Even then, if it is locked to your account, you can't mail it anyways. Not to mention the obvious, of it is bound to character, there's no way to pass it on... The Zen for the acct bank is well with it, BTW.

Mk XIV UR Aegis set, I have been in the zone with the Crystalline Entity in CCA when the charge fired off - no damage to Shields at all.

It won't let me drag items that I can attach to the mail slots and no they're not bound or locked, It just doesn't let me do anything with all the extra items my science doesn't need but my tact could use.
Do you have too many items unclaimed in the Mail? And as stated you MUST be at an actual Mail Console.

I've been playing STO for just over 3 years, I know how to use something as simple as mailing items between characters, it's not the first time I've tried using it. I don't have unclaimed mail either, my inbox has nothing but msgs from gold spammers.

Breen if using Transphasics.
It makes sense, but I hadn't realized that you got bonus from the Jem'hadar set when it's used on a Galor.
i have a tac officer and i only fly science ships.i run the dyson set on my vesta.after seeing the damage output of gravity well 3 with the tac officer alpha buff i can never switch to a science officer again
