Best Skill Tree Builds Engineering?

Hi folks. I have a Romulan centaurian level 14 and I am wondering what is the best skill tree for space combat major dps and ground combat? I'm new to this game and still learning quite a lot and so I was wondering what you would suggest for a first timer like myself? I just purchased the Dhelan Romulan warbird

Race: Romulan
Faction Federation / Romulan
Career: Engineering
Level 14
Rank Centarian or whatever spelled.

For space, the skills that boost power levels are invaluable, especially for a Romulan since singularity cores generate 160 total power instead of warp cores' 200. Warp Core Efficiency and Warp Core Potential boost everything and the various Performance skills also contribute. They may not directly contribute to DPS, but extra power is always good. Attack Patterns and the weapon skills are also important for getting your damage up, but don't invest too much into projectile weapon skills unless you're sure you'll be using them a lot.

What kind of ship do you plan to fly, and what kind of bridge officer powers do you think you'll be using? If you want to use damaging science powers, Particle Generators will be valuable. I also recommend some points in skills that increase hull/shield healing so you can hang around the fight longer. Does anyone have numbers on how much Structural Integrity improves HP?

On the ground, Chroniton Mines are your best friend in many situations and are boosted by Demolitions. Weapon Proficiency is a no-brainer. Turrets and Drones could be good if you like those, but I've found damage from constructs to be disappointing.

Make a ship build and skill tree on STO academy website, then repost it here, we can guide you easier at that point.

@taylor1701d I'm not really familiar on how to do that. And I was actually messing around with my rotations an hour ago and I took out a class 3 cardassian ship with like 100% damage to 30% damage and then boom done.. I'll have ot take a screen shot of it later on.. But that was just messing around with my weapons and shields.. BTW how do I get ZEn from Dilithium?

On your Assets Tab of your Inventory screen, look down there is an Exchange button in the Dilitium Section from there you can buy or sell Zen and/or Dilithium through that interface. I don't know what it is going for exactly but probably around 240 or so Dilithium for each Zen.

Type in the number you want to sell Dilithium and the price you want to sell it at. You can probably get away with the least price listed, but whatever you do, DO NOT LEAVE IT AT THE DEFAULT value. Once they are sold off the Zen will be listed on the right as they are being bought. You can claim them.

I was asking about the kind of ship you see yourself flying after level 50. I know it looks a long way off, but you move quickly through the ranks in this game. Do you want to fly small, fast ships (I seem to remember the Dhelan is like that), or something larger and more durable but slower?

I'd say it's pretty hard to make a truly bad build in this game since you're required to spend all the XP you earn up to level 50 and most skills are useful in multiple situations. When I was new, people recommended buying six levels of each skill you pick because the last three levels give much fewer skill points per XP spent. Just don't put points into either version of Threat Control.

Since the lower levels rank up fairly quickly, for most of my newer characters I assign a few points early on and just let them build up and allocate a ton at Level 50, getting the final initial Skills speccing done out. I do have to watch that Assign Skill Points flash incessantly but who cares.

I'm more into survivability / damage. I'd like a ship to be big but slow but enough to sustain great damage

My advice is to not spend any skill points until you're level 60, know what ship you're going to be flying, and know exactly how you want to fly it. I guarantee that if you spend skill points now, you'll want to change it later, and that will cost either money, or time grinding dilithium. Yes, it will be a lot harder, but you'll be a better pilot at the end of it to compensate.

That doesn't make sense. Doesn't my ship low ranking one improve better when I spend skill points?

Maybe but who cares, you're going up quick regardless. If you play the Doffing game those will get you going through levels quickly as well.

For an engineer I'd use http://www.kaysvaultofstuff.com/cruiser-skill-spec.html although that is tuned more for a fed cruiser rather than the engineering class itself or Rommies but it's a decent template. If you're looking for a more damage heavy (lower HP) build then http://www.kaysvaultofstuff.com/escort-skill-spec.html might serve you better as a template.
