Today i made a KDF tactical officer. Going to spend the next few days leveling him to fifty. He's a Nausician. Can I get some advice on what ships to work towards getting when I get to level 40 and 50
It really depends on how you are going to spec your captain. That said, my advice is to take everything that could be a science ship for the admiralty system. Also, pretty much all the BoPs are good ships and can be whatever you want them to be. You'll probably end up in a t6 something eventually so I wouldn't worry too much about t5 and lower ships. As far as T6 goes, They are all fairly good depending on captain spec. My personal favorite is the Mat'Ha raptor but I only own 2 KDF t6 ships.
The Mat'Ha is a great DPS monster, especially if you stick with disruptors so you buff the scatter volley nose cannon. If you have the lifetime sub the T6 vet ship is also very good, and has Lt.C science for grav well 1.
Agreed on picking science ships leveling up, for admiralty. I think both T5 carriers are considered science.
One thing you'll run into is that you don't get a ship token at level 10 -- you have to finish the house always wins story mission at which point you get tokens for ships, not before then. If you have gotten any T1 - T2 ships from giveaways you can use those instead.
Also, you can get a Plasmonic Leech for all KDF and Romulan-KDF character by buying the Vandal destroyer for 1,000 zen in the C-Store. That also gives you a ship if you haven't finished the house episode yet.
Raptor/Bird Of Prey/Battle Cruiser [freebies] is all you really need leveling up IMO, once you hit 50+ and are deciding to invest in some form of end game ship, than other poster(s) advise will work.
Welcome to the Kdf side, good choice
So far due to my 11 kdf chars ( ) i can tell you that :
- T2 -> T4 : Take the Bird-of-preys. You have universal boff seats, great manoeuvrability and a battle cloack. The Ki'tang (T4) is a little underpowered due to his 3 fwd weapons instead of 4. But the lvling is fast and there is another reason on why to take Bird-of-preys : Admiralty. The Bird-of-preys are balanced to all stats (for exemple the Ki'Tang is a 20-20-20) that help much.
- Good T1 -> T4 C-Store ships :
- T1 : You should consider the B'Rotlh. The console is very good adding +50 power and +10 max power to weapons, engines, and aux. Also that console prevent and repair your offline systems. It is also a part of the Kor set. For 500Z totally worth it.
- T2 : Nothing
- T3 : The Nig'Tao give you access to the Quad disruptor cannons, a very good weapon. The main difference with Fed and Rom is that you have access to it at T3 instead of T4, saving 500Z in the mix. The Vandal Destroyer is of course a must have only for his plasmolich console. You'll equip this console to all your future ships so be sure to get it.
- T4 : The Draguas give you access to the Assimilator Console. I use this one on all my small crafts and it is deadly in event like shuttle event.
- T5 L40 : At this point you'll have choice to different gameplay. If you are a free player take the ship according to your gameplay. If you are a C-Store player, take the Vo'Quv Carrier that will be a great help for Admiralty system. No C-Store worth buying at this point.
After lvl 50, you'll have a lot choices. I recommand the Kurak or the command battlecruisers. If you have access to a fleet shipyard the Qib is a very good choice too. The Kar'Fi is the only C-Store carrier with a 4/3 weapons layout is also a good choice. The B'Rel retrofit is a cloacked bomber, if you like that kind of gameplay.
I would not recommend to buy the Kosali or the Negh'Tev
I am from Belgium and english isn't my main language, sorry if I make mistakes.
Officer Batman do me a favor and never ever reply to me again. Everyone else has offered me great advice but every time I see you post you are always rude and insulting. I'll take everyone else advice over yours any day of the week

My favorite t6 right now is the pilot raptor, for pure damage. The matha is ok, with over-ride safeties which is potent but it only seats the low end versions. The pilot raptor has better officer seating and the pilot move skills let you keep the enemy in your sights much more easily when using pedal to the metal and avoids big damage spikes if you are quick.
Welcome to the Red Side! I suggest the Pilot Raptors. Loads of fun to fly. And BoPs are not bad ships. How can a ship where every BOff seat is Universal be bad? They do take some skill and talent to use effectively though.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
I'm heavily leaning towards the pilot raptor guys. i play one on the Fed side and I love it to death at how agile the ship is, but dang you guys are not making it easy for me to decide what route to go. I may also have to eat my words on the cannons right now on my Tier II ship I'm ixing cannons and beams and enjoying myself

Typically leveling up playing story missions solo, I tend to mix at least 1 DBB + 1 DHC + 1 torp or BA front side depending on how many slots I have, while usually always 1 - 2 BA aft, but 1 BA + turret or torpedo is fine as well.
While this might not be the most efficient dps layout, it is sufficiently optimal for any kind of firing arc needed, and will do perfectly well in story missions.
Yep I'm still experimenting on it but I find I am liking the mixture seriously on next Thursday I'll post what ship I'll get when i get this toon up to 50. I can always count on the STO community minus a few bad apples to give me some great advice and what's so interesting now, I'm enjoying Tactical officers like crazy

Experiment some to figure what best works for you, as my above recommendation is more for slow lumbering ships, while more agile ships can better be optimized for narrower firing arcs, with heavier hitting weapons vs sustained firing field [aka arc].
@delliboy I'm sorry you feel that way. I have no idea who you are and don't remember seeing you. You clearly have misread my intentions and read my posts through a certain lense.
Firstly, i was being playful, i am seldom serious when i post non helpful stuff. I can give help and info here that others have gained from. With you i was being light hearted.
Secondly, I was only echoing sentiment that i have heard before from KDF only players. In fact i heard pretty much they same thing before, "is being kdf that much a pain?". It appears your new here so ill give you the benifit of the doubt. They feel like a red haired step children and are underserved in this game, everything is geared towards being a fed. When you say "i broke down an created a kdf..." it would offend some people, i guess your not aware of being rude yourself. Example, if you ONLY drive Ford trucks your entire life, your daddy drives Ford trucks, your a super fan of Ford trucks yadda yadda ya, and you hear someone say "I finally broke down and bought a Ford truck" i guarantee you would feel 'what is so wrong with Ford trucks buddy!" "Broke down and finally...." used in english means you didnt want to do it before or some how compromised your integrity.
Thirdly, if you feel Im rude and insulting you dont know me. You need to grow a thicker skin and keep on trucking in life. Dont like it, fine, don't reply to it and forget about it. But after this i wont remember you from Adam and ill reply the same i always have, i suggest you develop the same attitude. Im not going to walk around on eggshells for small personalities. And if you think im rude and insulting welcome to STO forums, there are plenty of worse posters that will be arrogant jerks.
In sum, im sorry you took insult, i did not mean it. Please forgive me, and enjoy your new nausican. I should use more of these so i am not taken seriously -your new friend @officerbatman81 God bless and Happy Holidays
Thank you for your comments Officerbatman, I appreciate what you just said and remember not everyone handles certain posts the same way. I try to treat others the way i want to be treated. I do forgive you and I hope that I continue to see post like this from you.
I can also report that its been like two days and I already have him up to commander. Raptors are starting to seriously grow on me. Who knew these little ships can kick out so much damage. I'm having the best fun I have ever had in a long time. I may go back to Science when I get my life time membership next spring but right now ITS ALL ABOUT THE TACTICAL BABY. Crit is a beautiful word to me. Thanks for your understanding

I'm finding birds of prey to be very fun even in endgame, although frustrating at first, it pays off to practice.
"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."
I know right now I don't know what I'm going to choose both pilot raptors and the other raptor look so dang good. Oh this is going to be a tough choice.

Don't go for pilot raptors if you are already playing a pilot escort on another char. The ships are the same ones, the only difference is the raptor have more hull and less shield. I am sorry, but making another char to play the same ship you already play feel like stupid.

The flanking on birds of prey is very nice, especially paired with space flanking from intel spec, and attack patterns.

Shurg...I have 4 rom toons all fly the same ship. There is something to be said for favorites. Also, all my toons use fast turning ships...I have no interest in flying lumbering bricks.
Like I said, that feel stupid. It's not like rom have only 1 fast turning ship...

I agree and that BOP flanking is totally sweet, getting ready to get into the Cardassian arc that's usually where I bite it cause they hit so dang hard but we'll see how I do. I should hit Brigadier General today
Just remember you need the C-Store ship to get the nose cannon console and the mastery trait. The console fits nicely with a disruptor build. It's always fun in a Tholian red alert to open it up on a cluster of ships and hammer the weavers to bits.

If you want a truly unique KDF experience then I would definitely suggest to go BoP all the way. See you already have Pilot ship experience, and Feds can get everything else, but BoPs are uniquely Klingon. They may never top the DPS charts, but IMO nothing brings the satisfaction they do when you are flying them. Plus with the new T6 BoP you can try both standard BoP tactics and Torpedo bombing, as it combines the best aspects from the Fleet B'rel and the Fleet Norgh.
