Hello all,
the title already sais what is on my mind.. customizable bridges!
my idea is kinda simple but that means it would also be an easy fix.. we have some standartizes bridges, lets keep them but add a light dimmer/increaser and four channels for recolorable options (maybe some textures as well?)
those channels would be Carpet channel, A Seating channel, A channel for the walls and one channel for the consoles (exterior part)
so in short, each channel could have a series of colour options we now have for the uniforms for instance
and we could aply them at the bridge and those channels would be linked to the rest of the ship so the carpets and walls will be the same troughout the ship.
and the light option would make it possible for you to brighten or darken your bridge and quarters.
it sounds like a simple enough function to add and would add so much more personality to those interiors.
what do you think?

It's unquestionably a low-priority item, but a tintable version of an existing bridge ought to be significantly less effort than a new or redesigned layout. It depends on what how the texture mapping for the models was originally laid out -- if it wasn't clean and logical to begin with, it may prove impossible to rejigger it to a tintable version without totally redoing the whole map.
Heh...,
... try late 2010 when They were still actually making 'static' bridges to sell.

The ask is slightly different from the ground covered by Taco in the FCT, which I think deals more with new or refurbished layouts.
If the texture maps for the bridge were designed for easy recoloring (and I suspect the bridge packs were, if nothing else), then it may be a relatively (and I stress "relatively") simple matter to build an interface that allows players to select colors for broad monochrome sections like decks and bulkheads.
Or it might look like horta poo, in which case you'd have to tweak new texture maps for each palette or individual color, meaning it's not the type of enhancement likely to be slipped in by a bored designer with a few minutes of free time.
Not having access to Cryptic's raw model files, I can't tell you which is the case.

while I would love customizable bridges... "simple" and that idea are not on the same planet... esp in terms of a video game to be customized by the user not a developer.
Bingo.
Unfortunately, merely tinting a grayscale map tends to lead to monochromatic textures that might be okay for a single-colored bulkhead but tend to be flat and ugly for any texture more complex (like, say, a carpet).
If that's the case, you might need to bake up a batch of texture maps with different palettes and build an interface to allow players to chose one (which we've already kinda got in the ship customization menu, but a tiny static screenshot doesn't really cut it). There's something of a time-sink to do that for every bridge in the game, but if they're well-constructed professional-grade maps, with consistent layer naming adhering to the shop's style guide, it might be possible to build a batch process to do them in bulk.
There are complexities when it comes to advanced texture mapping, but most or all of those ought to remain fixed across a recolor.
It's not exactly simple, but it's not rocket science either. The basic principles aren't terribly different from the system we already have to customize the exteriors.
It will never be (and shouldn't be) a priority item, but it might make for a diverting side-project.
Because they wont even make more colors for the MACO armor
and maybe nekkid taco pix.....(kidding) !!!
First off, if something has been requested since 2010, it means that there still IS a market for a thing like this.
second, my idea to make colour maps for carpets, seats, walls and consoles is not something I have read before in the forums, I did look around before I posted this, I believe my idea differs enough to justify this tread.
Some bridges have the same layout but differ in colours and/or other lighting ,that is what made me sugest this in the first place.
Judging by the options we get and the fact that we do have those options on our uniforms made me think that it might have been included in the software somewhere but was never worked out.
wich ,made me think about this option in the first place.
I love my ship interior (defiant class) and bought the belfast package cause I wanted it as close to the original as I could
so I believe there are enough people out there that would like something like this.
