Micro-Torpedo Launcher Disappointing?

I just got my Terran Rep Micro-Torpedo Launcher kit module, and I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed. Setting aside for the moment that it's not the 'space bazooka' people (myself included) were hoping for, it seems to take an awfully bit hit in the damage department for the sake of having a homing projectile. Topping it off, the blasted thing doesn't count as a grenade power; I know it's not technically a grenade, but it's mechanically very similar to one, and might actually be okay if it got the various grenade buffs (damage from skills and cooldown reduction from BOffs among them). Is there some advantage to this wrist rocket boondoggle that I'm missing, or should I just slot my neutronic grenades back in?

Personally, I thought this one should have been more of a universal kit, but most of the Mirror universe ones tend to be like that.
