"Point pistol." At least that's the one I use.

Enigma is suppose to be an attempt at a 25th century Machine/Samaritan (though not as omnipresent since space is very, very big).

    Notes on Enigma

While a camera can be useful to Enigma when access to one is available, it doesn't need one to see the world. What it primarily relies on is sensor data. Using this data, it renders in real time a kind of virtual representation of the area within range. It can then place a "virtual eye" into this "virtual world" which can move around freely. This means that when a subject becomes obscured by an object all Enigma would have to do is to reposition its "eye" to reaquire the target (if they're still within range of sensors).

So Enigma essentially coordinates it's "eye-sight" by using multiple sensor grids at the same time?

    @zionus0
I suppose that's another way to look at it, sure.

It occurs to me that Enigma could just see everything in sensor range at once, though that wouldn't be particularly useful information to its users.

    ...

Maybe I should reveal a couple of these users now:

    - Proxies
They don't really understand where they're getting their info from. They mostly care about the payment they get when they perform some simple tasks.

    - The Facilitator (name suggested by duncanidaho)
He and Enigma have an arrangement. The Administrator trades information recieved from Enigma in exchange for providing maitenence and carrying out directives when required. I imagine this character to basically be an Illusive Man and Shadow Broker rolled into one if that makes any sense (did not create Enigma btw).

The Facilitor: "You must be Guris of the Orion Syndicate."

Guris: "Why have you brought me here? Who are you?"

The Facilitor: "You could say that I am the representative of the one behind the curtain."

Guris: "A representative? I've been brought here only to speak with a representative? You people know how to wast one's time."

The Facilitor: "What little you have left I'm afraid."

Guris: "What is that suppose to mean?"

The Facilitor: "You've stolen some highly sensitive information from us, and planned to share it. Will you explain why?"

Guris: "Stealing? From you? You think I would- I don't know who you've been talking to but they must be lying. I've done everything you've asked for. More, even. I'm the reason your organization can keep tabs on the Orion Syndicate. I'm entitled to a certain level of trust here."

The Facilitor: "Your record is rather exemplary. That's why you've been given the chance to explain yourself."

    Guris: "Well it wasn't-"

    *several holo-images materializes*

The Facilitor: "Don't exercise your talents as a liar to us Guris. We know all there is to know about you. Your professional hacking skills. Your gambling vice. The family you love."

    Guris: "My family?"

The Facilitor: "On Mol'Rihan I believe. Wasn't that the deal with Romulan Republic intelligence? Their safety for your services. Since they know little of your work no harm will come to them."

    Guris: "Who are you?"

*hundreds of images cover the walls of the chamber*

    Guris: "What is this?"

    -Enigma-: "Your life, Guris."

    Guris: "..."

The Facilitor: "Meet the one behind the curtain."

    Guris "..."

The Facilitor: "I imagine you have many questions. Why all this? Why gather so much about one individual? So much about the world?

The answer to that is that it is all necessary. It seeks to end the waves of chaos that have gripped this galaxy for far too long. To end wars, temporal incursions, and to provide true galactic unity. In short, to provide the one thing people truly need after the war. Total security. And it will crush anyone to ensure that it happens. For those praying for galactic peace, it is the answer.

But first, a few key players need to become more... manageable. You were working for one of them, and we've let you. But your recent activities, among other things, suggest you are become a loose cannon. Uncontrollable. Someone we cannot tolerate. Someone the new order cannot tolerate."

Guris: "You're seeking galactic domination. I've seen it all before. Just recently too. You're no better than the 'chaos' you're trying to control."

The Facilitor: "Domination implies overt control. History shows that this has always resulted rebellions. Our methods are more covert. Precise. Controlled. Effective. No one will ever have to know."

Guris: "But some do. Some have to."

The Facilitor: "And they will be dealt with. I assure you."

Guris: "You know, I'm curious. Why are you telling me this?"

The Facilitor: "So that you will understand what it is you have died for."

    *Energy bolt*

    - The Administrator (I should come up with a more creative name).

    How about "the Facilitator?"

Bipedal mammal and senior Foundry author.

The Facilitator: "Perhaps our task is not entirely feasable."

    -Enigma-: "Explain."

The Facilitator: "Every corner of this vast galaxy contains a near endless variety of individuals both remarkable and those less so. Though you have many eyes, you as yet cannot track all of them. Any one of the unwatched can develop into a critical threat. And any one of them capable of sabotaging the order we are striving to create."

    -Enigma-: _

The Facilitator: "You have final say in this matter of course. But consider that the galaxy survived the Iconians because of unexpected factors at play."

    -Enigma-: _

    The Facilitator: "..."

    -Enigma-: "Reassessing dominant directive..."

    The Facilitator:
"I've never liked time travel. I don't liked the chaos that can result with its abuse. The increased temporal activity is alarming to say the least, and it is something we are ill equipped to deal with at present."

    -Enigma-
"There has been an assassination attempt on President Okeg at the Alliance summit."

    F
"It seems that we share our predicament with others. It seems that these operatives are able to slip by any sensor grid of our time period, even yours. Fortunately for us the Alliance, the Federation especially, seem to be the focus of these incursions."

    -E-
"That could change. We must prepare."
    *Displays schematics for several devices*

    F
"These will take some time to develop. R&D will start on these immediately. Speaking of targets, have you found a solution to your Atalanta problem?"

    -E-
    "Deployed Asset."

    F
"Seems rather heavy handed, but I suppose it is necessary."

I get the feeling that the humor behind Enigma's annoyance with Desperate Trill's pick up lines was lost. :no_mouth:

    The Facilitator:
"It's been a long time since there was a planet this promising. Does it remain officially undiscovered?"

    -Enigma-
"For now. The Alliance Exploration Initiative will be underway soon."

    F:
"Then now is the for the inhabitants of this planet to learn how wonderous this galaxy is, and the incredible dangers that await them. I'm sure they will come to appreciate a guardian that offers protection from threats beyond their comprehension."

    -E-
    "I am at their service."

    F:
"Indeed. That being said, this will still require a delicate touch."
