I have figured out how you can get Re-Career spec for all characters...

There is a device on Camus II which allows two people to swap bodies. You could visit Camus II with a partner and swap your body/skills/career for theirs!

I know Cryptic would need to monetize this so maybe you'd have to buy a "ticket" to Camus II to use it...but there you have it!

I've never heard of that so not sure if that's true or just trolling, but in case it's true, I recommend you to delete that post, posting exploits might get you banned.

He's not trolling. He's merely suggesting what would be the best way to incorporate career switch. Camus II and body-swapping is from TOS, if my memory serves me right.

Unfortunately, I believe it was said that that mechanic would be too difficult to implement.

Yes. And it wouldn't be hard to implement - it would just save your character data like a costume and you'd apply it to your character. The Specs and Traits already let you respec so, no problems.

It really is not that simple, not by a long shot.

How about just a simple C store token? we don't really need a reason or explanation forced on us.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

    What's the fun in that?

Sometimes its best not to overcomplicate things that's all.

It really is! You're over-thinking it.

Have you ever worked in video games? Have you ever worked on THIS game? Unless you have, then you actually have absolutely no idea how easy or difficult it would be to implement your idea into this game.

Pretty much this. It could be as easy as a line just changing a number - or it could be extremely complicated because many career things have been hard coded because nobody ever considered a career switch an option. It really depends on the program. And if the devs say it is too complicated (mind you, they did not say it is impossible given enough resources, but complicated), I tend to believe them because it is them who work with this program a lot more than we do.

It really is! You're over-thinking it. Your character is really nothing more than a BOff which you control. ALL those traits and specs and everything else already exist in the game in a fully realized form. You would simply use the Camus II device to compress all your data into a BOff, then swap in the other player's BOff and you're done. Then you can respec and reapply your traits (traits are earned and they reset automatically when you respec), and your skills. You can even change your appearance if you really need to, and we'll say Klingons can't swap with Ferengi because of brain-pattern differences.

    Done and done.

When anyone says "It really is that simple!" the people you see facepalming, headdesking, and preparing to hang themselves are the poor coders who actually know how it works, why it isn't that simple, and how many interdependent systems will have to be redone from the ground up to make that happen, unlike the slick salesperson who only knows what he pitches becomes reality, at whatever the cost, which doesn't matter to him, because he never pays it.

Something that appears simple, like expanding the default backpack in Censoredcraft, apparently would have game engine shattering repercussions if it was done without a massive overhaul of many systems.

So OP, you made a wrong choice (like me) and create a useless Eng or Sci, spend a lot of Zen for Inv/Bank/Doff slot unlocks, billions of EC on ships/traits/boffs/doffs... and now you want Re-Career to Tac?

50 %+++ of all STO toons are Tacs (for the reason). If Cryptic made "Re-Career"... 90 %+++ of all STO toons will be Tacs xD

I have 8 60 lvl toons... 6 of them (and my main) is Sci, a fool was i, didn't know anything about game...
Now i'm on the road to cut them all, and have a fresh start - Romulan Tactical team xD

"Useless" is a bit of an overstatement, don't you think? Sure, Tacs deal out more pain, but it's not like Engs or Scis have problems doing anything in STO.

Certainly a lot because Tac is the best and easiest. But generally in MMOs, damage dealing classes are more popular than tank classes or buff/debuff/heal classes. I guess normally by this margin though.

Only wondering why somebody would choose such a low variation lineup when knowing nothing. I would always try everything out on one toon if I have enough.

Actually, I have an extensive background in digital media and publication so I know for a fact that whatever I think they can do, they can do...

Because that's what "engineers" do. They make things run.

That's not what I asked you. I asked had you ever worked on video games. And if you had ever worked on this game. There are all kinds of "digital media publication" that have absolutely nothing to do with one another or the processes involved in their creation and development. And once again, unless you have some kind of experience in the gaming industry, on the actual development side, you have no idea what you are talking about. Your idea may be easy, or it may not. You simply have no idea.

Yeah, I'm with The Nagus on this one.
If you've never done any game designing or actually written game code, then you really don't have a clue as to how hard it can really be.
Especially trying to change something that was designed from the get-go to do one thing, and one thing only.
"Easy-Peasy" is never really as simple as some folks like to believe.

The problem with that idea is the switch may not be permanent. Unless of course you kill the other person. ;)

I recommend you delete your post, until you catch up on some TOS, son! :p

BTW, for all the people that ride Shatner for his acting ability, I think he really knocked it out of the park in that episode - he really acted like a disturbed, manipulative, and conniving woman. Then when he's back in his own body he's in control and stern, yet pitied her.

Yeah good luck...pretty much the only reason people want a career swap is so they can switch from Sci or Eng to Tac...so need to find some fool willing to give up their Tac...

For whatever idiot might think Engineers or Sci's useless: I feel sorry for you.

I for one have an amazing engineer who performs better at BHE than any single tac officer ever could. Why? BECAUSE she has engineer abilities not avaliable to tacs which SHINE in BHE. Not to mention BoTSE and anything with Borg (Chroniton mines)

I notice all these are ground missions. Can you say the same thing in space missions? Because it's true, Eng/Sci are great on the ground.

1, Who cares about space? (Half joking on that)

2, That's not a problem which is hard to fix. Buff engineer and Sci space abilities.

I support the OP because what he's supporting adds more options to the game which should be in most MMOs.

I however do not support the idea that some have put forward that Sci or Eng is "Useless" even in space, that's an utter lie.

These days my tacs are probably my least played of all my characters lol.

Trouble is buffing them wont affect damage much...which is all some people care about. What they need to do is either change or add abilities...because more power from EPS Transfer wont affect much unless they added a component that increased the max subsystem power...and Nadeon Inversion...well not sure about that...just woke up so brain definitely isn't firing on all cylinders.

Body swap? LOL, LOL unless I am swaping my old wrinkly body for a brand new 20 years old, that could work.

The way to change the misguided opinion that "Dps is all that matters" is to start designing content which isn't a dps race.
