Fleet Guardian Cruiser versus Fleet Dreadnought Cruiser.

I own both ships.

I have been flying the guardian mostly and I like it. The dreadnought seems nearly identical but with pets and a spinal lance (the lance seems to be mediocre but what the hell, its a little more DPS here and there).

I have my own opinions but I am just slightly past the newbie stage. I'd like to hear some thoughts, comments, opinions or whatever from old timers and experts.

That's a very close call.. close enough that I would say go with whatever ship you think looks the best.

The Guardian is more Science Heavy, it has the advantage of being able to use Gravity Wells and has Intel Abilities which are very nice. The Dread is a little tougher, has the lance and the full 4 tactical consoles. They both handle like they're floating in syrup, so that's a wash.

If you're a phaser build, I would go with the Dread, just because in that case I would use the Lance as the tie breaker. Really though, you can go either way on this one, the ships are very comparable to one another.
    Insert witty signature line here.

I agree with seaofsorrows, they're both really close so just go with whichever you find more fun. If you want to invest in some good Hanger pets the Dread is nice, and also while the Lance is usually really disappointing, even with full Phaser consoles, it can still be fun to fire it. I always like to save it until a boss is just about to die and make myself feel awesome by firing it at the last second :P
