OP is just another whiner. And seriously if you still haven't gotten your gear to lvl 14 you are a poor player. So OP stfu.
Increasing Mark on your equipment has nothing whatsoever do with skill. It's costly, it's time consuming, it may need a lucky roll, but having better gear has no immediate connection with being a better player. Better players tend to have better gear because they know what's better, but it certainly doesn't work the other way round, and some do not care enough to spend most of their time crafting.
True HOWEVER if you really read the OP's post he sure as hell has that idea. Thats why I said what I did. And if one has been playing sto since they instituted the R&D system you can craft the upgrades fairly cheaply to bring your current gear to lvl 14. Or if your really desperate buy the upgrade token on the exchange for EC's. Really no need to craft all new gear unless you want a specfic set of traits and that part needs a revamp as no matter how many times you make a piece of gear the traits are random. It should be random on the first try then you could pick that trait on future items of that type or pick a random chance to learn how to make a new trait. I.e. you make a phaser and get acc/dmg/snare the next one you craft you should be able to pick that result every time if you want it. You learned to make that in other words. The OP complains about costs and assumes a lot about using credit cards and the like but EC is free and man getting a boat load is very easy now and the dilth cost is minimal if you think about it when you go the Exchange root. So yeah I stand by my judgement of the OP being a poor player.
I am unemployed and hardly any money to buy zen but I don't mind because I can get EC and dil and use that for my costs and as for time consuming, then that's good because if someone starts playing again from the beginning, then it will seem a bit fresh, especially with the new reboot Cardassian missions.
OP, I am still having fun in the game. I set goals, like gearing the what I consider is the best ship each toon to Mark XIV purples. ON both ships and ground gear as well as the BOffs. I also am working towards getting level 20 on all crafting schools for all my toons. Basically, each toon is focusing on aspect of the game and maxing it out and then moving on to the next area. It's how I find fun in the game.
All you need to do is figure out what you see as fun in the game and just focus on that.
I have played a few different MMO's and there has been moments that were less exciting than others but if I had to give any advice other than "take a break" it would be "make some friends". Sometimes the right fleet or group of people is what you need to make the game more fun. If you are in a fleet or with a group of people that basically take the joy out of even logging in with the incessant complaints and whining then odds are you are going to emulate that thinking. I'm not saying that is your case but that has been my experience in the past.
I find that hanging out online with friends that still love playing this is game is the reason why I play and it never seems to get old. Anyway just another suggestion if you feel like hanging in there.
"There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life." - Ten Bears (Will Sampson)
Pfff... Played all the species and missions but I'm bored every time I hit lvl 60 with a char I deleted why because I don't want to do all the darn grinding. Anyway did the new missions a few times bought a bunch off ships from the exchange upgraded them to an worth playing fleet ship. all that done and still bored out of my skull, did try to make another char but I just fail to have the spirit sounds I need a break, But I can't I'm still upgrading my main to Mark XIV, did a lot of grinding and dilithium rewarding missions to keep going but men there is so little spirit to continue because there is not much else to do while waiting on the R&D Timer. You can't even research epic stuff... And with the new Cardessian series is not much wrong but it's a hasty job some sounds are not working and the enemy are to darn easy plus the rewards are less then expected. even with the new grind they introduced only earning you 50 thousand dilithium ain't really a prize right ?
Did they really have 6 month's work on a season with only 4 missions a admiralty system witch is great if you pick the right missions that is. and some bug fixes along the way.... Alright I would say there is a content drought, I really thought they would do lots more stuff.... to the game like make the fleet stuff all to Mark XIV all other stuff upgraded to Mark XIV.. Instead that missions gave out Mark XI that they would have upgraded it by now they give LvL 60 chars Mark XIV stuff.... Well to stay short here just expected a lot more from this season thats all...
So did you expect more from the Development team ??
If you are bored try other MMO like EVE or something F2P like SWTOR. SWTOR has a ton of stories and would never get bored of content for a long while. At times, we ALL need a break from the grinding farm

The new season does suck.
Don't like that fact? Don't read my post.
It's nice to see mirror back, shame it's not a permanant fixture though, like in the early days.
PvP died not because of PvPers but because of cryptics idea that DPS makes a good game.
Well that stupid Zhal trait hasn't helped PvP.
Boom your dead...wait...no you're not... and there you go..., flying off under the cover of cloak, so you can recharge your abilities and come back and do the exact same thing in 60 secs.
That trait should be Disabled in PvP.
It's maybe the worst thing to ever happen to PvP.
I can deal with the shield bypass stuff, and phys damage and the radiation/kemo stuff that's rampant atm. But that trait just totally ruins the whole point of PvP.
Got a bunch of guys running that trait with pride. Its just depressing seeing how far things have went down the toilette.

Plenty of other issues with it though.
