Unfortunately, the introduction of the "Defiant" pattern seems to have created a 'situation' with Hull Material 6 (Sao Paulo)... they and parts customization seem to not be co-operating with each other...

@turbomagnus I would assume its not a bug, because Defiant class and Sao Paulo class are mutually exclusive. Sao Paulo is not just body parts its a skin too. You would need to equip the Defiant template to use defiant skin.

Hull Materials (such as the Type 6 from the Sao Paulo) and Paint Patterns (like the new "Defiant") have never been, and to the best of my knowledge are still not, "mutually exclusive". In fact, from the article itself;
It is the default option for the Defiant preset but can also be combined with other patterns by using the Advanced menu in the Starship Customization screen.
Besides which, if that were true that they were 'mutually exclusive', then I wouldn't be able to set a Sao Paulo Parts Template to the Defiant Paint Pattern while still having the Type 6 Material active, which I can. And for that matter the Defiant Parts Template would allow the Type 6 Material without the "Defiant" paint pattern, which it does not. In fact, I'm recieving "Invalid Parts" errors when the Defiant Paint Pattern isn't even involved, just parts of the ship.

Cryptic did a nice job with the Defiant remodel and reskin. Nice enough to tempt this hardcore KDF player to purchase it. Being a T6 ship makes it a little more attractive as well. I have to wonder how my Delta Retread Science char would perform in it. I was intrigued by the Pilot ships, but my current skill set ingame is not good enough to survive and be effective in one. The Defiant Bundle seems to be a little sturdier with a few less abilities as a balance. Might be an acceptable trade off.

Hmm. I mixed a lot of Defiant and Sao Pauls parts, tweaking Material and Pattern choices... It always seemed to work. What exactly where you trying to combine?

First it was the Defiant hull, Gallant bridge, Gallant Refit nacelles and pylons; 'Defiant' Pattern and Type 6 hull material and then when that gave me an "Outfit uses Invalid Parts" fly-in and refused to save, I tried other combinations and some worked and some didn't. It's all here;
