Cryptic—Please FIX Bugs

nextloopnextloop Member Posts: 19 Arc User
Cryptic Devs,

The game is fun and scratches the Star Trek itch many of us long-time fans have. Overall, the game is a blast and the hard work of the devs is much appreciated. Unfortunately, STO is BY FAR the buggiest software on my system.

I have a 40Mbps Internet connection, yet experience the kind of lag and network performance you would expect with a 1Mbps connection. The lockup/freeze when doing map transitions has been there for months...yet no fix.

I have spent more money than I care to publicly admit on this game, as have many others. Yet, every other week there's some major event, ship release or other gimmick to pry more money from gamers' hands. Can we have more bug fix updates that address some of these long-standing bugs instead?

You're beating a dead horse on this 1 buddy. There are bugs that have been here since launch still lol.

Some people might experience map lockups and freezes and then some don't. It's hard to nail down every single bug if people experience things differently. They're doing what they can to fix these bugs.

Events keep people interested in logging into the game. Ship releases when they occur with these events may spur someone who sees the new ship to scoop it up. Plus, all the old ships getting T6 revamps means that people can fly their favorite ship and take advantage of a new hybrid seat.

F.C.T. topic, expect this thread to be closed very soon.

OP, I would like to personally thank you for proving that software developers are in need of people skills!

No need to resort to personal attacks buddy. I didn't attack Cryptic. In fact, I complimented them on the fact that game is overall very fun.

But that doesn't negate the fact that the game is full of well-documented bugs. Many of these, as a previous reply pointed out, been there since launch. Many of these have even been acknowledged by Cryptic, yet remain unfixed. Meanwhile, there is update after update designed to get more money from faithful users (in which group I count myself).

It would just be nice if some of the money we're paying would go toward a major bug fix update.

So I guess they can expect your application shortly so you can fix all these bugs?

Wow. Didn't realize commenting on the bugginess of the game would result in such vitriol. Nor did I realize the expectation of reasonably bug-free software was unrealistic after spending quite a bit of money on said software.

If you are a software developer and you may be able to provide better quality information to the bug hunters regarding the lockup/freeze than I have, that someone could use to fix the problem, PLEASE help me with that in this thread, as there are limits on what I know to report:

Any relevant information you can report there, and that you suggest I contribute, would be very helpful.

    Cryptic Devs,

The game is fun and scratches the Star Trek itch many of us long-time fans have...except for one thing. STO is BY FAR the buggiest, piece-of-TRIBBLE software on my system.

As a software developer myself, there's simply no excuse for some of the long-standing bugs that are in the game. I have a 40Mbps Internet connection, yet experience the kind of lag and network performance you would expect with a 1Mbps connection. I have spent more money than I care to publicly admit on this game, as have many others. Yet, every other week there's some major event, ship release or other gimmick to pry more money from gamers' hands. If you really want our money, here's a novel concept...DELIVER A QUALITY PRODUCT.

Your map stalls and such are all a network routing issue beyond the scope of the Dev team in that it's Cryptic's ISP interfacing with your ISP and somewhere along the line there's a faulty 'hop'. The issue definitely exists for many, but it's not something that can be corrected by some lines of programming code. I just went through 10 days of the game being perfectly playable in my local afternoon hours; with nothing but SNRs and connection timeouts later in the day (8:00 PM on local time.)<--- This situation recently cleared up, (and still existed for me to two days past their major backend maintenance again leading me to believe it was an ISP interaction issue (and Cogent, Cryptic's ISP is notorious for throttling bandwidth of certain other ISPs when they want to negotiate the rates ISPs pay to each other.)

Again, it sucks, but not every issue STO has is related to actual code issues in the actual codebase itself; and some things are more in Cryptic's control then others. (And unfortunately not every ISP can handle the volume of traffic an MMO can handle (or do so at a price point that allows said game to remain profitable); so just switching their ISP isn't always an option, and there no guarantee that the same percentage of users won't be similarly affected by routing issues after doing so.

Again, if you are a software developer who's ever written a distributed app relying on the internet for any major portion, you should know that sometimes there are things beyond your control that can't always be fixed via direct coding on your part.

They have fixed more bugs in the last few months then the last few years combined thanks to Trendy's bug squashing initiative. A lot of the bugs fixed recently were around for quite a while.

Yea op, I agree. Lag is back for me with a vengeance as well. Sad because I was just starting to have fun in game again.

The power related lag seems to be the dominating problem here. Thought it was solved. When I pick my fully loaded chars and go in with peeps which run similar packed toons it becomes obvious the most. ISA is most painful at the moment. VCE, CSA and all the ground ones I run regularly seem lag free for me.

Simple deal for cryptic which worked fine the past year. They tended to lag and I got a few ships. Now they give me the lag back so I appreciate it f2p.

Good advice, OP. Also, Cryptic, don't forget to take enough fluids and eat your vegetables.

You can post this absolute rubbish but I would get a 'warning' or ban if I were to question your mental state of mind?
