I've been a proponent of this for AGES, but Mine Trap was and still is my favourite PvE in the game.

It's been dead, ever since the scheduled events ended and I literally haven't been able to play it in years...until yesterday. I was able to encourage enough players on ESD to join the queue and we knocked it out of the ball park!

I earned the title "Savoir", maybe 200-Romulan Marks and earned some very impressed R&D.

What I'd like to encourage is that whenever you log into the game...join the Mine Trap Advanced queue, because it really is amazing fun and has some great rewards :-)

It has great rewards...if and only if each district has enough players who know what they're doing. And in my experience when it was still regularly pugged, this was rarely the case.

    Still fun mission, though.

Isn't there a 20 man PvE channel that runs maps like this?

I miss Mind Trap as well. Back in the day it was my go to for romulan marks.

Count me in, I'm @DaZee in game, I'd love to get to run that more often, send a mail or a tell, maybe we can work out a Mine Trap Channel

I've been seeing more requests for it in the DPS channels and around ESD lately, which is encouraging.
Mind you it doesn't happen too often, but it seems, we're not alone in missing this great mission.
I actually got to play it myself, like 2-3 weeks ago. We totally dominated it.
It was really nice taking the TR116b in there, pegging off salt Vampires at distance, was awesome.
And it totally shreds them, when all buffed up.

Ok, I will queue up for it, hoping that'd encourage others to do the same, when they see something happening, because I always wanted to play this STF, but not on Advanced. I never ran it before, so Adv is a no-go for such a greenhorn ;)

Indeed, it's a good deal of fun. Quite aside from the issue of finding enough players to populate an instance, I always felt its premise would make an excellent MacGuffin for a short mission strand attached to the New Romulus rep track focused on the investigation of this incident (much like the existing missions tie in with 'The Vault: Ensnared'). After all, if these 'salt vampires' are not only supposedly extinct, but find the particular salts in copper-based blood (Vulcans, Romulans, Remans) undesirable, how do we explain the population found here? While it could be a variant species the colonists recently stumbled across, given what is known of the Tal Shiar's activities under the now-deceased Hakeev's direction, the possibility of this being an example of an engineered macro-scale bioweapon cannot be discounted.

twitch.tv/valikinfx/ runs Mine Trap on most of his STO streams.
DPS-Bronze, DPS-Silver, DPS-Gold, etc. are FAKE! They were created by an outvoted minority who destroyed the original DPS channels!

Tactical Team sucked, once upon a time. I got it buffed. Don't think for a minute that Cryptic ignores forum feedback.

I used to queue for it just to show support, but being a toon-hop-aholic having to re-queue every single time is extra work and I end up forgetting about it altogether.

The mission is a good fun one, but in the end it still is just another STF mission that's very old. I see no reason that a similar principles in mine trap couldn't be applied to make more STFs, perhaps on a rotating basis, as I doubt the level editor is all that hard to use, and there's plenty of in-game graphics that could be recycled to make new levels and scenarios just like mine trap.

The keys I've found. Stay close to your other team of five and in the district you've beamed into. Once you've got your people to the shuttles, join another team if they're struggling.

It really is such a great game though and anyone who joins STO from now on, will never get to play it without organization.

Yesterday, someone on ESD said they'd join the queue and asked for more players...I badgered everyone and whored it, until I got 20 people...join the queue whenever you can and also sing its praises :-)

What do you guys think about increasing dil/mark rewards for 10 and 20 player queues while nerfing them for 5 player queues? I think that will drive more people to play them. Oh and obviously the difficulty on Crystalline will need to be increased since that's the current insta-pop queue.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

Why dont you create a public chat channel and publish within your fleet then open up to others? If you need more people you can advertise in ESD zone chat to get more people enrolled in this chat channel. Some of use would love to do it and in same boat as you do....just a matter of finding the same peeps with same motivations to do them.

And First City, and NR Command. Some people don't go to ESD

I queued up, there was 6 of us already... and I got disconnected, and can't log back in :(

Is Mine Trap the one with the salt vampires? I only ran it a few times back in the day, but I appreciated the return of a classic monster and the use of a multi-stage event to move players from one end of a huge map to the other. It's a good instance.

I really like this mission as well, and it's a pity I never see enough people queuing for it when I'm online.

However, I do understand why it's been more or less abandoned. It takes a long time to run, longer than missions like Azure Nebula Rescue, with not much more reward. It is also quite sensitive to players who don't know the mission well. (Edit: Wait, did you say 200 romulan marks?? Woah. They have apparently updated the rewards since last time I was able to play it)

I've been thinking that a possible, but by no means easy solution could be to remodel it into an open adventure zone. Make it so that it's possible to drop into the various parts of it independently, with each part giving rewards independently, but with a bigger reward if you see it through to the end (and perhaps only then receiving the daily rep mark bonus?)

This may not be feasible, by adventure zone standards the map is pretty small, but I don't really see any other way of bringing players back to it in any significant numbers.

Speaking of adventure zones (and slightly off topic), I think we need a "Rebuild New Talax" zone, similar to New Romulus. Just sayin'.

A lot of the current PVE's don't get the love they deserve. A thanks to the more Veteran players out there who remind the newer gamers what they are missing.

That's the one :-) And I would create a channel, but not everyone checks them, especially newer players. It's not to try and steer ESD chat away from racism, sexism, homophobic, TRIBBLE and general filth anyway and try to get the subject back onto Star Trek! I wanted to make a post on the forums, because more people are likely to see this and also at their leisure. Spread the word though, whenever you're in a social zone. It's nice to play with new people and I'm always happy to help a newbie in any game, but Mine Trap is special and it's been near-long forgotten.

In all honesty...it might have been 290 or 295 Marks, but then it was Advanced and we got every bonus. Oh and the title. It really doesn't take that long...

You're in four districts...a team of five in each.

Get the people to go home and lock their doors...some are Salt Monster imposters that you have to fight. (They can turn you into Salt Monsters yourselves at times).

Fortify the buildings with materials from nearby bins.

Fight off the Vampires and stop them from destroying the buildings.

Herd the people through an ambush of Monsters.

Fight the Vampires while the shuttles get them off the planet

...and I know that might not sound exciting to anyone who's played it, but it really is the most fun I've had in STO in a LONG while! The only thing that takes time is the queues, but the game itself was beautifully designed and I want people to know what they're missing and since the schedules events were unfathomably stopped, for everyone to be able to play something more than just a Crystalline grind-fest!

Just had a run with 20player channel for mine trap advanced.
I will admit the sector got completely overrun, but it was fun.:P
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I've just run in with the 20player channel guys and even though we got a bit overrun it was good fun and great to be back in that mission after so long.

It's not too difficult though with all the powercreep we've had but making sure people follow the mission is the challenge.

I don't have too fond memories of Mine Trap. You had idiots piling into one or two zones while leaving the zones they were originally with undefended or poorly manned. Mine Trap was very easy if people stayed in their original zones but we're talking about STO players here. This was even back in the heyday when everyone used to do Mine Trap. I doubt most players today will do it better.

My best idea for Mine Trap is to borrow the tech the devs used for Tides of Ice. In that mission, the number and location of spawns varies based on how many people are present. A similar system could probably work for Mine Trap.
