Some ideas about item crafting/upgrading.

Greating everyone, I recently got back to the game after a little break. More like I try to log on daily, instead of every second week once. I was still playing a lot when the new crafting system came out, and the upgrade system. But lately I was trying to help a friend of mine, to craft 6 of the same weapon for his ship. Of course I tried it on the most cost efficient way as possible, making mk2 items. Also on side note I have lvl16 in all schools so my product is always very rare. I've done a little research after 120 attempt and still couldn't get the modifiers right, and came up with only that the epic quality upgrade will give a modifier of [Dm/Ac], every time. but the rest is totally random. Since i wanned to make [Dm/Ac][CritD]x3[Pen], it requires me to get either [CritD]x3 or [CritD]x2[Pen] on the quiality of very rare. So this chance based crafting in my opinion isn't the best way. I had some ideas that I would like to know what others think of.

I think it would be very useful, and new player friendly (or at least wallet friendly) to integrate some sort of upgrade modifier tokens or something. Something like the catalysts now in crafting, and if you slot it (3 max when craftin, because the very rare can have 3 modifiers) it will add the modifier to the outcome of the item. Of course this would mean thatyou have no catalysts in there, so if you have insufficient skills, you may lose one modifier or 2 because the outcome will not be purple. Or if you dont slot the modifier tokens, the outcome will be random. I think it would work, make the game more accesable for those who cant grind for 24/7 to make enough EC to buy the weapons that are exceeding the price of some lobby ships. It also would make the stfs more accessable, bacuse a lot of players still wont queue into a random one because still have those who lack the gear to be able to contribute.

As of upgrading the mk12 items to mk14, would think of something similar. Maybe making quality upgrade accelerator, that has the modifier on or something. Or making a dropdown menu where you could choose the modifier, but would require more dilithium once, again if its not set by player outcome is random. These are just ideas that in my opinion would make the game better, and more accessable. Also probably would see less zone chat whiners that how Pay to Win the game etc.

I meant the pay to win at the fact that if somebody who realy want to have a build that outstanding, not just "okay for this mission" gotta spend over 50mil per each weapon on the market (the beam that i was trying to make cost 150mil EC for 1 piece at mk14 epic quality). I personally use fleet weapons where i can, or reputation sets. But I wanned to help a friend of mine, and turned out that is more than just a bit difficult.

I was just getting ready to write up something very simular to what you just did when I stumbbled onto your post. In addition to what you have wrote. To get ppl to play the game more and to resurrect some of those STFs that ppl don't play I was thinking. Upgrading accelerators can only be got from the R&D boxes sold in the C-store. What if? Cryptic was to add just one (1) accelerator to the crafting boxes that drop at the end of a STF. Only 1 random accelerator 1 time perday per STF. I know that would get me to play them more and I would even upgrade a set of gear for my ground crew. The hidden truth here is. When upgrading those accelerators come in handy and they save you a ton of dilithium, especially in the long run. So what do you think?

P.S. Maybe I wasn't clear enough on the accelerator drop rate. Say you do 5-10 diffrent stfs a day. In turn you would recieve 5-10 upgrade accelerators a day. Cryptic could run promotion days like they do now where 2 accelerators would drop per STF.

It's NOT "pay to win" -- it's "pay to save time." Also, someone with just VR XIV who uses their skills properly will out-DPS an idiot who has Epic XIV Ac/Dm CrtDx3 Pen.

I would love to see some crafting items added to the reps that you could make via the rep projects, that than can be used etiehr in crafting or upgrading an item giving it that rep's special type mod. Like a crafting mat from the new roulan rep making a normal plasma (maybe make it only usable on that type of energy weapon used in that rep faction plasma for this example.) qweapon you made into a romulan plasma varient. THis could allow us to get a omni romulan plasma array which i would love to have.

This has been suggested so many times now, it's just not funny anymore. If you give people the option to mod as they want, everyone will have the same and prices for the EC market will just crash for all but that model.

Also, there is no P2W element in this game. P2W is model where PvP that incurs actual personal asset loss is prevalent. You can't lose anything in this game, even in PvP. You can even get by easy enough with MKXII equipment and a T4 ship (although played skillfully enough, I'm sure you can do the latest content with a T2 ship if the right skills and equipment are there).
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
