I took a hiatus somewhat after the Dyson sphere release and haven't played since. I just got back on and was wondering what important things I may have missed or have been changed. Is MK XII gear still the best tier? I feel lost with all the new reputations and systems. Is there somewhere with info I could get caught up on?

    1) upgrade system is the biggest change.
this is part of the all 2) new crafting system that highly focuses on upgrading.
    3) few new STFs and reputation factions + a TRIBBLE load of story missions
    4) T6 ships, though not really necessary for playing are a big change. there are ships out there that can have 3 new (intelligence, Operations, Pilot) boff seats
    5) boff training revamp...higher boff paowers are now available within the crafting menu (but don't actually require crafting)
    6) specialisation trees for past lvl 50 progression

some of the above are connected in some way or the other, and there is probably some more.

Long story short, basically go into the game now thinking that this is an entirely new game that inexplicably has your captains and gear. There really isn't an easy resource to get caught up, and lots and lots has changed.

Level 50 is no longer the cap, you can go to level 60 and accrue Specilization abilities instead of Skill Points past 50.
Mk XII Purple is newbie gear. Mk XIV Epic (gold) is the new top end. Unfortunately, to get that top end gear you have to take lower gear and apply Upgrades (most of which cost Dilithium to apply) to get it up there.
Queues and such were buffed to take into account the new gear and general power creep, which means your former builds won't put out nearly the amount of hurt they used to.

    How do you upgrade gear?

    How do you upgrade gear?

Short answer: Grab the gear you want and put in inventory, right click and choose 'Upgrade'. It'll say what upgrades it's compatible with. There's a 'Tech Upgrades' category on the Exchange, search for 'Superior ' followed by the type ('Superior' are the most efficient Dil to Tech Points ratio for most use cases), you'll need a bunch. Then go back to the upgrade screen and slot the upgrade and then apply over and over again chipping away a little over 1k Dil each time of whatever Dil reserves you have.

Longer answer, try this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjzDsLRcS1M There's other vids on it on Youtube if that one doesn't explain what you need.

to upgrade you need items "technology upgrades" 10 "schools" or so which you can find in your R&D tab inside the doff window. (somewhere on the riight next to "assigments"

you need to level a specific school to lvl 15 by slotting research projects (normaly at the bottom of that long list)
those take 20h to complete ... using dilithium to increase the speed is not smart.

you can also just go to the exchange and buy very rare upgrades, right click on an items in your inventory and select upgrade...slot the technology upgrade in the first small window to the right (cannons can only be upgraded with cannon upgrades, beams only with beam upgrades and so on)

maybe you want to watch a video tutorial on you tube before doing anything drastic
it is not very complicated, but a lot of info...so watching a tutorial on upgrading is probably the smartest thing you can do in your situation.

if you have a loat of EC and dil, you can go to the exchange and buy the superior upgrades, it takes around 15 to go from mk II to MK XII and another 6-8 each for Mk 13 and 14. right now the best sets are AP and Tetryon, because both of them offer a mission reward 360 beam array and a crafted beam array. you will need to read up on the mods. there is [over] which is a random BO, {snare] [Thrust] and a couple others. there has also been a shift on what the best mods are. in summary you will need 25-30 upgrades which is @ 27-32K of dilithium and 400-600K ec (I think my numbers are correct) you can also buy boosts that will incread the amount of tech points, a boost to increse your chance of a rarity upgrade. on a set of 6 beams i have found I get 2-3 UR bumps and sometimes I can get a UR and epic bump. when you get a rarity bump there is no control as to what you get. your VR acc crtH crtD might get a x2 on one mod, might get dmg I have not seen any of the new mods on a rarity bump
