Reinforcements Squadron vs. Hangar Pets Turnrate

thibashthibash Member Posts: 506 Arc User
The AI of the shuttles from the pilot skill Reinforcements Squadron seems to be much, much better. I've used them side by side with regular hangar pets and where the hangar pets ran circles and fired their turrets only, the Reinforcement Squadron made strafing attack runs and moved much more agile.

Any chance that with the new carrier coming up, this A behavior can be implemented on the hangar pets too?

EDIT: As the next post pointed out, it's not AI but turn rate. So can the hangar pets get better turnrates please?

The turn rate of the Reinf Sqdn is what lets them do their Pew-Pew. I wouldn't call it better AI. If the rest of hangar units turned better, more of them would be useful, especially Frigates that have a focus on weapons with narrow arcs like KDF BOP hangar units.

A better turn rate would indeed fix much of the hangar problems. The second problem they have is their suicidal behaviour to stay near the biggest ship seconds before the huge warp core breach. Fix both of those, add a bit more survivabillity to smaller pets (anything that launches 3 ships at a time, Runabouts are actually pretty decent) and carriers become top notch.

Not that I'm complaining, the Breen Carrier with Elite Plesh Breks is a beast in its current form and I very much enjoy flying that ship. But there always is room for improvement.

Then give 'em better turn rates indeed.

My hopes are that with the new fed carrier something will be done with pets in general...

There are actually better AI in the game as well. The rescuable NPC ships in the Undine BZ for example, can stay on your side almost in formation when traveling from one node to the next, while hangar pets always lag 10-15km behind you and some non-hangar pets barely follow you at all. The Fleet Support ships in particular don't seem to ever use full impulse at all and will be left behind permanently if you have to move.
