This is related to the growing number of complaints that I've seen (
& agree with) in the
Design a Ship contest.
The general consensus I've seen is that the currently-offered hull designs for the new T6 Federation Carrier (
as seen here) either "suck" or are not suited for use as a Carrier. Personally, I believe that all of these designs look better as either Cruisers or Escort Ships (
or in one particular case, a 23rd-century garbage scow).
People are voting for the hulls, but the general response seems to be that they are simply trying to lessen the damage by picking the best hull of the generally-unliked designs.
In my opinion (
& one that is shared by at least one other player), the best hull designs are the two concept sketches found in the top of the banner that they use for this contest (
as seen here - the two similar designs at the top of the banner, at the center & the top-right quadrant.)
These two hulls strike me as the best designs of the lot....they are clearly Federation designs, but they also have a unique look to them, with an enlarged neck leading from the saucer (
I personally believe it to be a chevron-shape similar to the Intrepid or Odyssey classes) to the reduced-size secondary hull. I could easily see the two Hangers on this design being housed in that fat neck or in the small lower hull.
I appreciate all the work that Cryptic puts into the game, trying to give players something new to keep them interested, but I think that they really missed the mark on this one...I believe that they should start over on this Carrier concept, using the afore-mentioned rough sketches as the template for its hull.
At the very least, they could add in those hull-designs to the options that we are being given.
I'm proposing a write-in vote....if you feel as I do, that the concept sketches have the best designs for a new T6 Federation Carrier, then please post here, expressing your desire.
My hope is that if we get enough people posting here to (
*POSITIVELY*) express their interest in a redesign of the Carrier, that Cryptic or Perfect World Entertainment will take notice & maybe even respond to our concerns & our opinions. With luck, they may even redo the ship in a manner that appeals to more players.
Please post, & keep it civil.

Also I must admit that Omega and Alpha designs are very good looking too and that they resemble carriers the most. The only thing I don't like about them (and other designs as well) are those misaligned nacelles. That is very bad idea IMO.
SUPPORTING PLAYABLE CARDASSIAN AND DOMINION FACTIONS!
The rest don't look bad, but seem to already exist in-game. 34 looks like a concept for the Veteran-exclusive Manticore, while 21 and 10 look like concepts for the Hestia or the Sigma suggestion.
As to the hull choices, Beta and Theta repeat the "nacelles strapped to saucer while hull just dangles below saucer" element that the Fed Command Cruisers and Oberth share. Something that an number of players vocally disliked (myself included). Both also look like a Galaxy-class with a bloated saucer.
Epsilon and Sigma loosely evoke the Typhon cruiser from the ST Activision game, being pretty compact, which some players do like.
Alpha and Omega both evoke the Jupiter modernized, which many players have been wanting for awhile now, with Omega looking to be the biggest and most menacing while still being modern; assuming that the light bar across the side is in fact the entire hangar bay, and Alpha following in second.
Gamma evokes a more aggressive combat carrier lovechild between the Armitage and the Hermes escorts.
Delta evokes a fatter Ent-J crossed with the Independence Day alien mothership, just with nacelles pulled in, and while it has the bulk from the side-view, it really isn't a pretty ship from any other angle, and would only look ridiculous from the front, which would look like someone puffed out their cheeks while pucking up for a kiss.
The Nebula-configured Odyssey needs to be a thing.
I agree that the whole set-up is somewhat suboptimal. People are asked to vote on the design by a top-down and profile sketch which don't offer much in way of three-dimensional impressions. What I personally consider sad but have to accept is that people just want triangular/star destroyer designs in their Star Trek game but if that's what sells Cryptic will deliver, no need to call foul play on this one. People just have bad taste
What I do not understand is why not simply all designs are made kitbash options when they went through the lengths to design them up to this point and why Cryptic even announces a contest when one of the ships in there is a remake of a STO-classic favourite ship, the Jupiter. Who is actually surprised that most people want that design? I don't get the point of the cotest, but oh well.
