The Top 3 system and mission 'series'

Hi everyone!

Something that has been bothering me for sometime is the Top 3 system and mission 'series'.

What I mean by this is, let's say I see a mission I want to play at a certain system. It is listed as 'Mission Title - part 4 of 7'. The description sounds interesting, but I really want to play it from part 1. How do I do this?

As an author, I know how to click on the mission hail button on the mini map in the upper corner, open the Foundry window, click on 'Browse All' stuffed along the window side, click on the 'hidden' Top Rated drop down menu at the top of the missions list, type in the mission name (correctly) in the 'title' box, then hit search...and hope it's listed.

Does anyone really think the average player is going to know how to do all of that?

Why don't they just simplify the process by having a single, "Other available missions" button where the Top 3 are listed now that would open a list of ALL missions set at that system location?

I know that even 'series' with multiple locations would benefit from this. Say Part 1 starts in the Vulcan system, but Part 2 starts at Risa. Well, good luck to Joe Average player picking up part 2 if it isn't in rotation in Risa's Top 3 after finishing Part 1.

The Top 3 system was a step in the right direction, but it, like the current Foundry Listing window (see sig below), is sorely in need of an 'upgrade' to show ALL missions.

Type the mission name into the search option then pray it finds Parts 1-7.

Haha! Search option? What search option?

As I said in the OP (third paragraph), I myself know where to look (taking SIX steps to get there :/ )...but you can bet that the average player has NO clue there is even a 'search' function in the game for Foundry missions. :'(

    My bad. Somehow missed that.

    Uhmm... At the moment..

Tell the player in opening dialog before the start of each mission?

Tell them the name of each episode part, where it starts and how to do custom searches?

That way if they find one ... you're giving them a rough guide on how to find others.

Keep in mind that adding start locations of previous missions to the opening dialogue isn't going to do the player much good if the previous missions don't happen to be in the Top 3 for their locations when the player gets there. In all likelihood, players will have to find your previous missions the old-fashioned way in any case.

You know its probably a good time to provide some general feedback of the top 3 feature from an author standpoint. i remember them saying there was already a consideration to incorporate some kind of "tagging" to allow authors to chase multi episode missions. but there is some other tweaking that could be done as well to enhance the overall system.

You're not supposed to bump threads that have been inactive for 30 days. This has been way more than 30 days. ;)

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."
