The Chameleon's Dish

The sequel to my previous mission The Winter of Discontent has finally been finished and I'd say in need of a fresh pair of eyes because I can't spend hours on end in the Foundry without getting tired.

Its a Fed, single player mission.

The in game title is The Chameleon's Dish (2/3) because yes it is part of a planned trilogy. I'm still missing a few assets I need for part 3 - Tempest, Resolute, Guardian and Annorax ships. But the next part is going to be big. I dare say it'll have the largest piece of reading material in any mission. But that's the future's problem.

Mission ID is ST-HA4QOGGLU if that helps and the mission begins over in the Acamar System.

All comments and criticisms are welcome. I hope it's fun and as I said this is fresh off the publisher.

This mission has some special features as it has the faces (not uniforms) of all 10 of my player characters. Free cookie to whoever guesses who they all are.

I played the mission but was unable to complete it so I haven't given a rating yet.

    Things I noticed:

    1) There seems to be an inconsistency with your titles. Part one says Winter of Discontent 1/3 part 2 says The Chameleon's Dish 2/3. That makes it harder to find all parts of the trilogy. My recommendation would be if it's meant to be a real trilogy pick the same name for all parts and add 1/3, 2/3, 3/3 or something similar if it's meant to be 3 stand alone episodes that are losely connected you can use individual titles and put a consistent trilogy name with a number in the mission description.

    2) You state Acamar as entry point in the first mission objective which is a good thing. Personally I would like to have sector and quadrant as well (not every player might know right away where to find Acamar).

    3) Some minor remarks:

On map 2 "convenience" was misspelled in one dialogue. On map 3 "determining" was misspelled in one dialgogue also I think the map transition dialogue said something like "sight to sight transport". Was that supposed to be "side to side transport"? Map 4 seemed to have missing objectives after scanning the corpse (although the problem could have been with my interface rather than with the mission itself) I guessed that I was supposed to fight the enemies that showed up on my minimap and then used the tricorder to find the map exit. On Map 6 buttons simply read "Interact" it's a matter of personal taste but I would prefer something more specific.

    4) Game breaking problem:

On map 6 there was the objective "Force open door" but the door in question stayed in place and locked after completing it which means that I couldn't reach the objective for "Examine evidence" and had to drop the mission at that point.

Overall my first impression was good but since the mission was uncompletable for me I can't hand a final rating. Please look into the problem I pointed out under 4). I will be happy to give this another try once the issue with the blocked door is fixed.

Thank you for pointing that out, I was sure the item was set to disappear after that. I will get on that.

Spelling and the door problem are fixed.

There is no objective for fighting the enemy after scanning the body. This is because it would not be completable without their being the entire mob and I only wanted the singular enemy. So in essence that fight is technically optional however I made it difficult to avoid.

The events on map 6 should have not have said interact, I did set them but the Foundry crashed on me so I must have lost them and that must have been how the door problem occurred.

Ok I have Winter of Discontent and The Chameleon's Dish on my list. Most likely I'll be fixing some minor things on my own mission tomorrow but I should get around to play both of your missions during the upcoming week (Tuesday if all goes well).

Finally finished this mission so here is the second part of my review.

There might be a problem with the battle against that fake general. You mentioned that he was supposed to be alone but he had 4 Tal Shiar helpers with him. My guess would be that you tried to place them outside the map and they were automatically shifted back in. You could try to shorten one of the dead ends on the map by placing an additional wall, trap the Romulans behind that and see if that works.

Once again there are some open questions but that is to be expected in the middle part of a trilogy. I found the story of that rogue scientist more interesting than the cultist storyline of the first part but that's a matter of personal taste.

Since the scientist apparently was behind the cult leader and in turn took orders from someone else this is a bit of a conspiracy behind a conspiracy behind a conspiracy thing :).

Still, very good mission (would have left a tip but it seems I can't tip the same author twice a day so the 5 star rating will have to suffice).

Thank you! Yes I tried to place the others off of the map because having others made no sense, in play testing they never appeared. I'll hide them somewhere :P

Did you testplay the published mission or just the preview in the editor? That makes a difference in some aspects (e.g. pathing).

One more thing. Consider setting a visible marker around the door you need to reach to proceed to the chamber with all those diplomats. This door was neither marked when I first beamed down to Acamar nor after the battle with the fake general. I hadn't much of a problem finding the transition to the next map regardless but some players might be at a loss there which will result in negative reviews.

I'll look into that as soon as the interact and dialogue fixes for The Winter of Discontent finish publishing.
