Post Embassy/Plasma Nerf: How are you coming along?

I'm hoping that they eventually get around to fixing it, but I'm curious as to seeing how people are doing in the meanwhile.

No issues here, the consoles are still being stacked by many.
they still hit hard, just no more 75k-200k crits.
Its really not a big deal.

I might have lost 5-8% DPS.

    Things are peachy as ever.

Edit: Im still using 3 [Flow] Epics

hmm interesting timing on this. I am looking at my rommie who already has mk 12 plasma consoles (not embassy) and i have 3 types, romulan plasma Corrosive plasma and the regular plasma all are mk 11, the rom plasma has [acc] [dmg] and rates at 175.3 dps the corrosive is [acc] [crtd] [dmg] rated at 177.3 dps and I was given some regular plasmas with [acc] [CrtD] [Over]. Do you think the damage mod is better in this case than the over proc? are there abilities in the roman and corrosive that I need to be aware of? the regular plasmas are far cheaper than the other two

They buffed the DMG mod a little while ago, so DMG is not worthless now.
DMGx4 is almost as good as CrtDx4 in a Tacs hands.

Corrosives have a -res proc, which works well with DMG mods. (Great weapons the corrosives are, just very very pricey for crtDx3 or Dmgx3's

Regular plasmas are a bit cheaper you can probably find some DMGx3 or CrtDx3 on the exchange for a reasonable price (or craft your own MKII's until you get the mods you want - may take a weekend to get 8 beams you want, but its pretty cheap to make the mkII's)

Romulan Plasmas, solid 2 proc weapons similar to Corrosives, theyre only downfall is that they have only 2 mods per very rare.
But great weapons, I ran them for a long time on my plasma build with the Rom Plasma beam array (from rom rep)
Advantage of these you can choose the mods you want from the store list.
If I had to do it again, Id probably make four DMGx2 versions, and four CrtDx2 versions, upgrade them to XIV then be done with it. And call it a day. (Mind you Rep weapons are more expensive to upgrade - but that's the trade off I guess for being able to choose the mods you want).

Over proc is okay if that's your goal (all weapons with Over) but id try to get either DMGx2/Over or CrtDx2/Over on the exchange or craft them yourself.

Another good set of mods (for any weapon) would be CrtDx2/[Pen] or DMGx2/[Pen]
if you get lucky on upping the rarity while upgrading you'll have CrtDx3/[Pen] or DMGx3/[Pen]

I'm not a fan of ACC myself, too many ways to improve it through traits and skill tree. Plus you rarely miss in PVE.

i was a bit concerned as I made it into DPS-50K channel just before the nerf but parses on the toon in question show no change to her DPS and she's still hitting over 50k in ISA

Doesn't make sense lol but things worked out in the end I suppose...seem to remember some people acting like the sky was falling when they nerf was discovered.

Doesn't seem to affect dps a lot and people don't have to worry about 50k crits insta-gibbing them in pvp...it's a win/win.

I have noticed a drop off on a couple of my ships, but not all. The difference is most noticeable on ships that were using 3 or 4 of the consoles to make up for having less Tactical Consoles like my Geneva and Fleet Guardian. My Nandi got a slight hit as well, though admittedly not as bad as I expected.

My Presidio, Eclipse, Phantom and Tempest have shown no real noticeable drop.

Overall, I still tear through content just like I did pre-nerf, but I still want the critical function restored. I still don't like the fact that my consoles were intentionally broken and labeled as a 'fix.' It's not about not about being able to handle content, the game just isn't that hard, I just my items to work correctly.

I'm ok with the damage nerf, but I would like to see the ability to land critical hits restored, preferably for all weapon types.

The difference just doesn't seem to come anywhere close to the amount of damage that these "You broke my ship" threads.

As for the crit, crit, crit, crit, crit, etc... Maybe some of us just take them too much for granted.

It no longer bothers me cause I no longer use Embassy consoles. I decided long ago that the old fashioned Plasma tac consoles work just fine. I'm not using any fancy consoles to get things done. Why spend the dil and time getting and upgrading to fancy consoles when they just get nerfed.

    I agree fully.

It would have been one thing for them to say "Ooops, they weren't supposed to Crit at all sry" and remove the functionality - honestly, that would have made much more sense and avoided the trust and PR kerfuffle they've gotten themselves into.

But they've said that everything should have been Critting, and now they need to own up to that. In the short term, not months away. Hopefully with the S11 launch.

I can curbstomp the living TRIBBLE out of the PVE of this game with its AI-Dead NPCs that don't do anything. I did that before Plasma Consoles were en vogue. I did that with Common & Uncommon Mk IX-XII gear with my Delta Recruits. I did this years ago in STO. And I still do it now without a slew of Epic Equipment. I switch ships and builds a lot, so going Epic and/or Mk XIV is not resource-smart.

One console did not make my performance. But hearing the chatter in various channels out there, apparently it did for a good number out there.

It's a combination of [Acc] and [Dmg]. So it's kinda like having 2 mods.

The tooltip should show "+20% accuracy" since you essentially have the [Acc] mod twice. The [Dmg] shows in the damage (dps) numbers in the tooltip but it's hard to tell exactly how much it was buffed unless you compare it to the same item of the same mark and rarity without a [Dmg] increase. Considering that the [Acc/Dmg] is an epic mod for that type of weapon, you can't really tell the difference between base damage for that mark and rarity and increased damage from the mod.

On topic, I never really got into the embassy plasma-generating consoles, though I was planning to eventually. I did recently pick up a couple, after the "nerf", for my character I'm currently working on and they seem to do pretty good just the way they are.

I don't really care about "DPS". Never have. I build my character myself and if it doesn't seem to work out I make adjustments and respec if needed, until the character is good enough for me.

Edit: Hmm....word was censored that didn't use to be censored. Oh well. Changed my wording a bit so it doesn't look like I'm cursing.

Yeah I know...some people were claiming on Tribble they were losing like upwards of what...70% of the damage from this change...I wondered if they over stated or flat out lied about the damage they lost...I guess I know the answer now.

I just hope when crits return for all they wont be insane crits :P

People do have a tendency to exaggerate, especially when something is changed that they don't agree with. I think they're just making outrageous claims in an effort to get Cryptic to feel sorry for them and reverse the changes.

If they are telling the truth, then it really wasn't working as intended. The majority of your damage shouldn't come from 1 type of source and it's outrageous to expect such.

If they depend on the majority of their damage coming from this type of console, they're doing it wrong, in my opinion.

Personally the consoles feel balanced to me, and I'd be perfectly fine if this 'temporary fix' was made into a permanent one.

I wasn't so much upset about them removing the ability of the embassy consoles to crit. I'm more upset about the reason given. Oh they are bugged and we don't feel like allocating the resources to fix them right now. That's a pathetic excuse. Now we know why so many bugs are left in game, most unacknowledged. As for noticing a difference...well I don't run a dps parser anymore so I don't have any clear cut numbers, but things seem to be dying at pretty much the same speed as before.

I just parsed 2k above my previous best and the plasma explosions added pretty much the same amount of DPS as before, pretty much nuff said there

People do have a tendency to exaggerate, especially when something is changed that they don't agree with. I think they're just making outrageous claims in an effort to get Cryptic to feel sorry for them and reverse the changes.

People also have a tendency to not understand the claims others have made, making themselves look bad in the process. That 50%-70% damage loss quoted was per console, not over their entire build.
If they are telling the truth, then it really wasn't working as intended. The majority of your damage shouldn't come from 1 type of source and it's outrageous to expect such.

The majority of damage in a more conventionally built ship comes from one type of source (weapons damage), where is the outrage? All this change has done has shift the meta from Science console heavy ships to back to tactical console heavy ships, reducing the number of optimal ships available.

If they depend on the majority of their damage coming from this type of console, they're doing it wrong, in my opinion.

Personally the consoles feel balanced to me, and I'd be perfectly fine if this 'temporary fix' was made into a permanent one.

The problem people have is that others are doing more damage, and to them that just isn't fair. It is much easier to come to the forums and complain than it is to put in the time to learn game mechanics and grind out for the gear you need for a decent build. There has already been threads that popped up aiming at the next things to nerf.

No matter what is nerfed or buffed, the same group of people that currently do massively higher numbers than everyone else will still be the ones we see at the top of all of the boards. They are the ones willing to put in the time and effort to create optimal builds and perfect their piloting skills. They will still be making videos steamrolling elite content (what little we have). Most importantly they will still be trying to teach their game knowledge to anyone who wants to improve.

Maybe we should create a complaints per second league for the forums so the true heroes of STO can step up and be counted as winners.

    Scaling my friend... scaling.

Let's dissect this a little since math isn't a strong suit for many.

If your crit chances are low out of the gate you will notice little to no difference. (<15% crith)

However, if you are on the high end of things it's massive. (>30% crith)

The 70% value people came up with was the drop specifically to plasma explosions from 50k to 15k.

35k from a 140k build accounts for 25% of your dps straight off the top.

Now this is going to scale downward fast as it revolves specifically around crit chance. So lets say you were at 20% crith you might see a 15% drop. 10% crith = negligible at best.

So even though YOU weren't hit by it specifically doesn't mean a mess of others weren't severely hurt.

Nah, it would have to be NTPS (Nerf threads per second) there's plenty of good complaining going on here. Bugs, lag, content, etc.
