so are they worth the switch? I'm using the hyperplas torp and the bio photon torps, the transphasic seems lackluster unless the resonant thing is a serious proc
If you are happy with the setup then don't switch. I have MK XIV UR AP beams and tac consoles that I am very happy with due to my 25% crit chance. So this set really doesn't help me that much.
Resonant weapons change half the value of the Critd bonus inherent to AP weapons to some temporary hit points. The choice is simple: Critical Severity Vs survivavility.
Are you flying a cruiser? Chances are you won't need those temporary hit points. Are you flying an escort? It's very likely you will increase your damage output simply by the increase in survivavility.

No ship type in this game needs the piddly temporary hull Resonant AP proc provides.
Cruisers and Carriers are chock full of hullpoints.
Science Vessels typically run with high Aux Power and there's many abilities and traits that greatly increase the survivability of these ships. Also, they have as a whole the highest shield mods in the game.
Escorts? Bonus Defense. Attacks that don't hit you is damage that isn't applied to you. Damage not applied to you means your repair abilities have far more breathing room.
Resonant AP proc's temporary hull is 100% pointless. It's even worse than the Tetryon Proc.
