You press Up > Down for an ordinary manual, or Down > Up for a nose manual. Remember to keep your balance by tapping Up and Down to keep the marker in the middle of the bar.

Before you can change to an ability, you have to learn that ability which is what the manual is for.

    1. Open your Character panel where you view your character and ship layout. (Default 'U.')

    2. Select the Bridge Officer that you want to learn the skill by clicking on his name over on the left side.

    3. Click on the 'Skills' tab along the top. You will have 2 bars one on the left side, one on the right side. The left group of 4 skills are your space skills, the 4 skills on the right bar are your ground skills. The first slot is Ensign, second is Lieutenant, Lt. Commander, and Commander.

    4. Click on the rank of skill you want to change/learn. For example the Ensign Space Skill (Slot 1.) Listed below the bar will be a complete list of all skills that can be learned in that spot. If you have the manual in your inventory, then the skill will have a 'Learn' Button next to it. Click 'Learn' to teach the officer that skill.

Once you have taught all the skills you want to know, you can click the 'Stations' tab, assign your officers to the station you want and change what ability they use right from that screen.

Hope that answers your question. Good luck.
