Left and cameback questions

I left right around the time the Romulan expac came out and now that I am back i've noticed that the Romulan start skips the quests that were in there originaly where you start on the colony and what not. Why was that removed? it seems a lot of story lines are missing pieces. For instance I got the missions to fight the Iconians with Tom Paris but have no clue how they got there or how the one lost his arm etc. Are the missions that fill in the story gone?

They slim lined some of the story missions in the 20-40 missions and the Iconians story arc begins after you do the delta quadrant missions.

That's just it, I got sent to the Delta quadrant with no clue of the actual story.

the romulan arc only skips virinat if you choose to skip the tutorial when you make your character. Check the episodes screen to make sure you havent skipped some of the other missions. The romulan plot arc hasn't been changed much unless you look at the federation(and thus fedrom) revamp of the romulan arc(which is really confusing since we have our own plot then play the federation's romulan arc)
