Welcome to STO! The only advice I can give you about playing STO is that which was given to me all those years ago.

    1) Play this game the way you think it should be played.
    2) Avoid these forums any way you can.
    3) Have fun while playing STO. If during a session, you had fun and you are looking forward to playing STO again, you won!

    Yes, I am serious.

    Another couple of questions

Is chat broken? I can see ppl right near me and i ask for in game help and no answer....

How do I get a new ship.... the one I start with sucks....
You'll be given the opportunity to obtain a new ship when you reach the rank of Lieutenant Commander (level 10). Admiral Quinn will provide a task for it as part of your promotion.
Don't expect to be flying a Galaxy class ship until you reach the rank of Captain (level 30).

just about every aspect of the game is explained in these useful sites.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Not sure if anyone said it before but the first thing you should do is set your weapon power to 100.

Excellent idea, and it's a thnig you need to do every time you switch to a new ship.

If you ever come to flying a lot of Science Vessels, maybe you need to revise the stance at some point, but for everythnig else, it's definitely weapon power you need.

Good Low Level (Ensign, maygbe Lt.) Level Skills:
    • Tactical Team: Distributes shield power to the shield facing that is under fire. Very useful, much faster than you could do with manual distribution (which you need to use while tactical team is not runnning)
    • Science Team: Counters many debuffs and a neat shield heal (but not spectacular)
    • Emergency Power to Shields: Great for adding damage reduction to your shields and increasing your shield power, making you last longer under fire.
    • Emergenyc Power to Weapons: Good Energy Weapon damage buff from the engineering side of things.
    • Hazard Emitters: Clears some debuffs and provides a good hull heal over time. A bread & butter hull healing skill.

Good Medium to High Level (Lt. to Cmdr) Skills:
    • Attack Pattern Omega and Attack Pattern Beta to buff your damage output. APO has some defensive uses, APB some team uses.
    • Beam Fire At Will: If you use beams, this is the skill to bring your damage potential up.
    • Cannon Rapid Fire or cannon Scatter Volley. If you use cannons, these are your optins.
    • Torpedo Spread. If you use a torpedo launcher, use this power to buff it.
    • Gravity Well. On a Science Vessel, this might turn out to be your major crowd control and damage power. Works well with other AoE attacks (like torpdo spreads, scatter volley, and more "exotic" stuff.)

At high levels, specialization-specific powers can also come into play, and more exotic build options might also warrant looking into different powers. But that's then.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

Like in most MMOs, you will loot and get rewards that are of increasing level and power. Simply replace the ones you are currently using with any better ones you get.

If I recall, you speak with Admiral Quinn at Earth Spacedock.

Now, you'll be doing your share of ground-pounding too, whether alone or with an away team. That said, here're some things I've found useful in this regard:

    • see those status displays in the upper-left hand corner? Not only do these show your officers' status, but allow you some control over their usage of abilities. For example, right-clicking on an ability button there toggles it between at-will or on-command-only (it'll be red in the latter case);
    • you've also probably seen a 'Pause Zone' button. When toggled on, this temporarily freezes the action for however many seconds it has stocked up (max of 45; this regenerates slowly when not in use). It major use is to let you sort out which tangos are being lit up by which of your away team (see: Mass Effect);
    • tribble buffs can help tremendously. There's a whole guide to how you can get useful tribbles from the mundane ones you've probably found a few of by now.

You'll get a mission titled 'Promotion.' Once you get it, go speak to Admiral Quinn in Space Dock and he will send you to the Ship Yard to get a new ship.

Engineering and Science characters are vastly more fun to play during ground combat than Tactical characters.

Matter of opinion, I actually enjoy all 3 of them in ground combat. :)

What a piece of TRIBBLE game.... I did the Quinn quest all the way to Laurel(ship requisitions) got the shp, picked the cruiser. Used the token Quinn gave me for it, now guess what....... NO FREAKING SHIP!!!!!!!!!! ,, So now I am stuck with this POS saber, until l 20 iI guess..... I subbed an ingame bug and ticket....

New ships don't automatically replace your existing ship. You have to go to the shipyard and talk to one of the NPC's there. You will see a list of ships you own and you have to select which ship you want to be active.

Don't throw away your old ships, either. As long as you have room keep your old ones. The gear slots on them can be used to store gear and free up bank slots.

I talked to laurel and the select a ship guy no other ship there
  • kamiyama317kamiyama317 Member Posts: 1,295 Arc User
You could try contacting support and asking them where your ship went, but honestly I think you are skipping a step somewhere. It's hard to tell without seeing what you are doing.

I spent about 10 mins on the quest, didn't miss anything. i reached l 10 went to Quinn as told to,he told me to go to LAurel, which I did... I spoke to her and opened up the requisition ship panel picked my cruiser, went to select it(forgot that npc's name), and wasn't there..... Did I miss something...
  • mnmacdmnmacd Member Posts: 17 Arc User
So I just read on STO wiki, that you need to use a turbolift? to get to LAurel..... I just turned around and walked to her in a straightline from Quinn...... what gives

I am afraid the Wiki hasn't been updated on that aspect. Earth Space Dock got a major revamp a few months ago.

A thing to check is if your inventory holds the ship. Especially if you have an overflow bag, it might be in the overflow bag.

Fortunately both the ship and the bag are just pixels, and have no actual size.

I don't think it would be in his overflow bag. Only a boxed ship could get sent there and I've never known low-grade ships, like the basic new rank freebies, to be boxed.

As to where it did go, I'm not sure, but I think I do remember someone else having a similar problem months ago. However, I do have a question OP, what level are you? Are you still below 20, because you mentioned having a saber which is the same Tier as a Cruiser if its still a Tier 2 cruiser you are talking about and not the Tier 3 Heavy Cruiser. (Essentially did you expect to have a movie era Constituion or a greyish ship with four nacelles?) As such, if you have a saber, you already used your free requisition on that, and would not be able to buy a Tier 2 cruiser too; at least not without dil. Or are you calling a Miranda a saber? Either way, I hope it works out for you, but if you have a saber, it should take you too level twenty pretty easily. After all if that one guy made it to 55 in an NX, anything is possible. :)
