I'm working on my first mission and i'm curious what people think is the perfect mission length. Do you prefer a really long mission or something that's quick and easy, finished in ten minutes?
I always kind of look at my missions as if they were episodes on TV, so about 45 minutes to an hour. Obviously people take different amounts of time to play them, but that's what I shoot for.
As a player, I like missions between 30-60 minutes.
That is the ideal length for reward purposes. Missions have to be (IIRC) at least 15 minutes long to earn any dilithium at all, but the maximum reward is for missions that average 45-60 minutes.
I think, that the "perfect lenght" doesn't exist. It dependents from the story, you want to tell. My missions have between 3 and 8 Maps and a lenght between 20 minutes and one hour.
It dependent from the story. A short classic Star Trek Story "planet is in danger, help them!" doen't need more than 3 maps and 20 to 30 minutes. A epic story wish saves the universe from a new threat needs much more.

How long a mission takes depends on the player... being me.. I like to look at the maps and find secret "lore" consoles etc.
