Hit the Escape key on your keyboard or click the gear icon in your UI to bring up the 'Main Menu'
Click 'Options'
Click the 'Graphics' tab.
In the lower-left corner of the UI screen there should be a section labeled 'Effects', the second option down is 'Visual FX quality', you can reduce that.
In the upper-right corner is a section, 'Details', if "Use Full Detail Character Animations" is on, you could try setting it to off. You could also try adjusting the World, Terrain and Character Detail Distance settings.
That should help reducing the impact of special effects and such and make it easier to see your ship, but I make no promises.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
