Instead of calling it OP and cry for nerfs you could just manually target that thing and shoot it. You know, instead of mindlessly mashing the space bar like a brain dead zombie.
Who am I kidding, it's STO we're talking about....
Learn some tactics! Mindless and sitting in one spot going PEW PEW doesn't work on Iconian stuff. I can list at least four ways to beat those. But hey you don't care because you are not willing to learn new tactics and would rather cry nerf it nerfit it killed me.
Those are targetable and have limited HP. I usually manage to kill them off before they start doing damage (they take a few seconds to activate IIRC)...
I have had far more issues with the Iaidon Dreadnought spamming unkillable 56k dmg Transphasic torpedoes... (is there even any playable ship with 56k base HP?)

I don't know about the T6's but some of the T5-U's that have full mastery have a base value in the high 40's to 50's. Once you add on console and equipment modifiers that value will increase, but you have to tank it at the cost of fire power.
Perhaps it is one of the Dev's answers to the DPS race!

Yes, there's a handfull of ships which do have such high hp. The Sheshar has 56k base, the command cruisers all pack a whopping 57,2k hull and the vaadwaur lobi cruiser goes straight to 60k and I think the T6 fleet galaxy & negh'var also are in the 57k range.
So it is tankable by some cruisers but defenitly not by some glass cannon escort.

Again, didn't say "nerf". And I do not sit in one spot going PEW PEW. Another ASSumption.
Solar Gateway is annoying but broken? try the Iconian Probe Spam ...
I said OP, not broken. I'm sure it's WAI. I hate the Iconian Probe spam too, but was more pissed at the moment about the Solar Gateway.
. . .
Considering I had just had one of my ships melted 5 times on the final wave of the House Pegh mission, at least once well out of 10km targeting range, with that worthless I.K.S. Hegh looking on and a swarm of probes sparking me every chance they had, I was less than happy when I posted. Even if the Solar Gateway targets the Hegh, if it reduces its hull to 0%, then it retargets to me. IMHO they are OP. Don't like it? IDFC.
Tactics? FFS, I have been playing this game for years and have at least 9 different active toons among all 3 factions and all 3 career paths with all different types of ships, weapons, equipment, BOff abilities, etc etc etc yada yada yada blah blah blah, so I've used lots of different tactics and that one NPC weapon system has to be the most frustrating and angering piece of work the devs have released yet. Is that the reaction the devs were looking for? Because, if so, that's WAI.
But I myself would love to have a weapon system that powerful and independently targeting and remains after my demise, with that range, and that short of a cooldown, along with an endless armada of disabling probes and an infinite shield recharge system.
Since I've sat here for years and read all these "tactics"-oriented "but DPS and AP is all that matters" "more PEW PEW" elite hypocrites whine and ***** about something the devs did to nerf their metrics in the latest patch, I thought I'd add some trivial and pointless ******** to the forum. Wow, did I get bites on the hook.
Thanks for the entertainment...trolls.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
Pretty much everything the heralds do is OP. Their damage is over the top, the spam is extremely frustrating to deal with, especially because it forces you to fight the UI to actually target what you want, whether it is solar gates or probes or particular ships, and of course the copious amounts of disables. I have not enjoyed a single herald fight, not in a FAW boat, not in a scatter volley boat, not in a grav well boat, and definitely not on the ground. Can't wait for the storyline to be done and never have to fight them again, personally.
House Pegh deserves particular mention because they spawn extra ships in that mission presumably due to you having an NPC ally. Last time I did the mission, the ally ship was 20km away from the actual fight trying to kill a lone viral probe for 5 minutes straight, leaving me to deal with all the extra enemy ships on my own. Even if it does get in the fight it is still useless, though.
Split beam rifles and space abilities like FAW or CSV make solar gateways and Iconian portals a non-issue. Now and then you need to think about what you are targeting too.

Classic rambling. Being a veteran doesnt necessarily mean you know the game, as you proved with your post. The Solargateways have low HP, they need to charge up, thus if you just wipe them when they spawn, there is no problem. There isnt even a problem if you take it while not moving in an escort.
I played it yesterday and had no trouble mobbing the floor with them, and that is with an DHC-Escort. I have to actually turn to be able to unleash hell upon all enemies.

Hm... now that I think about it, aren't the Devs pushing us to use BFAW and split-beam energy personal weapons with the Iconians? The Virus spheres. The subspace gateways (those ramming *donkeyname*s). That solar gateway.....
While the gateway can be shot and destroyed via aoe abilities, I understand the OPs anger and I chime in: It's a stupid "weapon". The "Heralds" (Iconians that were changed last minute I'm sure) are terribly designed, imho, just opening magic portals that do the shooting instead of having starships that put up interesting fights.

I don't know about that, how else would you depict their "mastery" of subspace?

I wouldn't have used that feature at all. I personally (other opinion may very well vary) hate everything that plays with "subspace" other than sending messages. The Iconians in STO are nothing more than sword and sorcery mages and warriors - probably ported from Neverwinter, just with different skins - fitting if you consider "subspace" is indeed Star Trek's equivalent of magic to provide and solve problems for episodes at will (I don't play NW btw, but it wouldn't surprise me if they actually did that ). The whole portal, teleport, isntakill-wavy stuff is really annoying in my opinion.

I find the solar portals annoying in a good way. They're iconians. Their whole stick is that they have these portals that open anywhere. It makes sense they would open portals to the surface of a sun and use that to fire a solar blast at us. I groan when I get hit by one, but because I have to find it and shoot it to death within a few seconds before I burn to a crisp. My main negative on it is the difficulty in targetting it when there's so much spam in the area.

Is there a hotkey button to switch target to the highest threat enemy? Maybe those gateways can/could generate enough threat to always be at the top of the list so we can target them easily enough?
If not that would be a useful feature (could be countered by a tank NPC and even tank players)

Exactly.
Even after the cruiser's dead, I'm targeting the battleship, trying to whittle down its shields. Probes spark me and shut down my weapon systems or everything altogether if it's the EMP. Energy gateway regenerates the battleship's shields, undoing everything I just did. I'm trying to FAW the probes now or, if it's on CD, target each one of the little TRIBBLE.
And out comes the Iconian TRIBBLE from Hell, spitting flame on me. Quick turn the camera and target, shoot (IF my weapons are online), and hope I get it before my shields are gone, 'cause here comes that damned torpedo barrage from the battleship.
Where's the Hegh? Oh, out of targeting range, like someone else said, fighting some little probe and it can't do the DPS to take it down. No threat there to even attract the NPC aggro.
Like when the cruiser's around, I try to only hit the cruiser and its probes, avoiding the battleship and, therefore, its aggro, hoping maybe, just maybe, the Hegh will TRIBBLE it off. No. vumpu' lo'laHbe'!
I've used manual targeting, fire at will, torpedo scatter, cannon scatter volley, carrier pets, gravity well/scramble sensors-combo, even the point defense system for AoE attacks on the solar gateways and probes. Those Iconians spam gateways and probes so much even the "gold-spammers" are jealous. It is an effective tactic, getting the attention off the ships so they can regenerate all the damage you did with their energy gateways while damaging you and negating your offensiveness all at the same time. You can't even rely on destroying the ships to get rid of the spawns, as they're independent of each other.
Oh, and BTW, that gravity well/scramble sensors-combo, when it does work, is hilarious to watch. The probes spark 'em and the solar gateway retargets and melts them as well. But only if I have that combo on a specific toon with enough UMPH behind it to make it effective.
Reverse shield polarity and the Romulan singularity quantum absorption are useful with the solar gateways also, though you still get mad damage. Feedback pulse doesn't seem to do jack squat against them from what I've seen though.
Yes, the Iconians use subspace. Yes, they have ancient/advanced tech. Yes, they're the most formidable enemy we've faced yet. And it shows in everything they do.
Are they supposed to be OP? Probably, based on story.
Do they need to be nerfed or "fixed"? I never said that, so stop putting words in my mouth, trolls!
Do they TRIBBLE me off and make me never want to do Iconian missions again? YES!
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
Eh, I'm fine with the Iconians in space. 2-3 Human Boffs on Feds and poor Fed-Romulans (the ones not yet able to afford Boffs with SRO) and 6-9 points in Subsystem Repairs goes a long way (and for every other non-Fed, 6-9 Subsystem Repair points).
Eventually though, I expect the Iconians will become nothing more than another NPC group to curbstomp, the way the Vaadwaur eventually became just another NPC group to curbstomp, even if they still have some annoyances (Tractor Probe, Trico Mines/Clusters, and Polaron Barrage).
I do hope that the Iconian ships will make it into a lockbox in the future with the ability to spawn similar Subspace portals (ie: Battleship has a Solar Gateway Console, Cruiser has a Energy Gateway Console, and Raider has Teleport Gateway console, and maybe a miniature Dreadnought having its explosive gateway ability as a console), which I expect will probably happen as a sign that the Iconian arc will be coming to an end.
If the pegh gets stuck out of range, just fly over to it. You'll only draw a couple of little things over which make it easier to deal with. And if you can take out the thing the pegh has focused on, it'll start helping you properly.
If you get the viral probes wiping out your systems, pop an engineering team. Brings the system back online instantly and reduces them from wanting to scream bloody murder to an annoyance.

I just wish they'd reduce the hp of the Herald pets/portals. Stuff like that should very nearly be one hit kill. I found it so tedious to face a couple of Herald ships, and to spend all of my time targeting pets, never having an opportunity to shoot the ships before they spawn another.
Not that it's impossible or too difficult, it just takes forfrigginever.
