T6 NANDI – FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Its a nice time to get back into STO

Full Review Here: http://lootcritter.com/2015/06/06/t6-nandi-first-impressions-its-a-nice-time-to-get-back-into-sto/

LC: This years Summer Event on Risa kicked off yesterday amongst the angst of “Dude, Where’s my 10K Channel?“, and while they were sorting that mess out and between my multiple computer crashes (not game related) – I had time to check out the new T6 Ferengi ‘Nandi’ Warship.

How did I get one so soon? Lobi. Lots and lots of Lobi. (1055 to be exact*).

As promotional ships go, most get dropped by the wayside beyond the initial thrill of trying something different. Unlike previous free ships, the Nandi stands out as one of the best free ships to ever be offered in the game. Until the release of this ship, I was hard pressed to to say any of the new ships eclipsed the versatility of the Chel Grett (T5 and T5-U versions offered during the Winter Events starting several years ago). I liked both the Sarr Thein Carrier and the Samsar, but neither ship warranted game time after grinding out the ship mastery abilities. The Chel I drag out at least once a month for fun.

It's kind of funny. Despite the idea of SCI-Scorts being popular, the Chel Grett never really caught on. They have all the makings you need of a solid SCI-Scort and have 8 weapon slots. They're as rare to see as Breen Raiders being flown.

I keep on saying the T6 Nandi is essentially the T6 Chel Grett we should have gotten. The stats are a sensible T6 conversion of the Breen ship. If one loved the Chel Grett, they should love the Nandi.

Oh, don't feel too bad about the 1055 Lobi. That's not too bad and it can get a lot worse.

The 1k odd lobi cost is quite reasonable really, the T6 ships in the obi store are all 900 lobi and they are only single character. With the Nandi you can cut the grind if you have the lobi, spend just a bit more than you would on a single character and get it as an account wide unlock.

Entirely worth the cost in my opinion.

I feel that lobi is too valuable to spend on ships . . . especially ships that can be obtained for "free".

Well I'm one of those people probably consider a whale, even though a large chunk of my zen comes from dil, I've usually got plenty of lobi sitting around.

Icarus Pilot Escort eats the Nandi for breakfast, beats it in everything. Definitely not worth the Lobi cost.

I would have spent the lobi on costumes or something funny instead of wasting it just to get a free event ship earlier, but maybe that's just me XD

No one picks up ships just for the bridge seating and specs.

For the RPers its a Ferengi ship even if the stupid thing is backwards.

For people that like anything else... its a way to give you 10s of Zero Weapon power drain every 30s by slotting a single copy of Tachyon beam 1.

    The trait is for you.

"Greedy Emitters - *Immunity to power drain -50 Weapon power costs +2.5 all power settings Effects last 10s"
Can be activated every 30s by Tachyon beam, Energy Siph or Tykens Rift

Looks like a very nice ship and I look forward to flying mine!

It is however, almost exactly like the Veteran ships in all bar one extra ensign slot, and the trait.

I look forward to the Veteran ship replacement!

It is uniquely powerful in several ways:
It is the only ship in the game that allows 6 bridge officers. For our romulan overlords, this means 6!!! SROs for maximum critical hit and damage. For the rest of us, we can still slot 3x SRO TACs.

It also has a high turn rate, 5 tac consoles, and 4 sci consoles. It's a stupidly good FAW boat, with a console setup like borg+leech+4x embassy+5x vuln locators.

It's engineer boff seating is weak, sure. I found myself wanting an EP2W3 I couldn't have. Even so, I highly recommend it.

chel grett is way, way more often seen (at least in pugs) than the raider. But not as often anymore than 1 or 2 years ago. This is kind of obvious since there are at least 2 other ships that are slightly better (undine nicor, insectoid olean and to some extend other ships with commander tac and ltdcmdr sci)

but, the nandi is not an option for me (as a passionate chel grett captain) since the boff seating simply doesn't fit. There is no use for the ltd sci and 2 ensign tac can't substitute the ltd tac slot.
By itself it is not a bad boff layout, but got little to do with the chel grett setup.

anyway, nandi is a nice free ship...not really similar to the chel grett, which is still moderately used in pugs (ofcourse it is not a scimitar)

with me the thing is, I park all my main characters on risa for the duration of the event, so its not like im going to be flying anywhere anyway.
also I kinda like doing the flying high mission so it just makes sense to do it and get the ship for free.

my only disappointment this year is they did not make it so they give a choice of rewards so you could do the flying high mission for the tokens or say favours or even and egg or something instead of the ship tokens as I kind of miss not doing it with all of my main characters.
still the only up side is it gives me more time to do all the other stuff on risa so no big deal.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

im still trying to figure out why "its a nice time to to get back into sto"?

I mean, your telling peeps they have to grind 14 plus days to get a ship (which is super fugly in my personal opinion), or shell out way way way more than you would to buy a t6 ship off of c store (to get 1055 lobi)!!!

and above all that, pretty much all the queues are still dead, fleets are pretty much empty, and the game feels less and less like star trek everyday.

while I don't think the game is entirely not worth playing, I do not think the Nandi, nor the summer event is "a good time for players to get back into sto"

Yep, 2 weeks of running the same event over, and over again. About as much fun as having an anal fissure. Yeah, I think I'm gonna stick with Lego Worlds.

1000/40=25. So it's almost a month of running the same event ;) Or, as the OP did, essentially spent double to price of a T6 ship for a *free* event ship.

I'm personally not that impressed with the ship. It seems very average to me. Just another sci heavy destroyer. I suppose that's good if you're into that sort of thing. I was actually hoping for another unique risan ship. I thought the covette and the cruiser ship were both pretty cool.

I always thought the Risian ships were really original...design, idea and they were a lot of fun! I'd much rather of had another, maybe even just a shuttle (a one-seater space surfboard, etc) than this boring Ferengi one.

Compared to any of the other "grinds" in the game, I've never understood the animosity towards Flying High. It's amazingly mild. Trivial effort for a ship. /shrug

(Certainly far better than the joy of slogging through Featured Episode Whatever 3-4+ times - per character you want them on - for the unlocked rewards.)

I'm doing it for 2 reasons..

    1. It's free. Well, basically free.. it costs me 10 min a day for a month.

    2. Because it has the built in Bank/Exchange. It will be nice if I'm in deep space and don't want to head all the way back, I can just switch ships and use the bank/exchange.

The ship has really nice stats, but I'll likely never fly it. It's ugly, and I refuse to do anything with the Ferengi unless it's massacring them in groves. I hate them like nothing else.

I want to be the bringer of the Ferengi Apocalypse. :D

    *WHISTLES LOUDLY*

Got your collective attention nay sayer types?

    Good..

The dayly "Flying High" take maybe a whole whopping 10 min to do. You beam in, do it, then either go play on Risa and get Lohlunat Favors and get some mostly Risa only toys and cloathing to play with, or beam out, transwarp to where ever and get with your normal dayly grind if you have one.

The amount of time spend grinding is less then say running a Kobali Ground once a day to kick into either Delta or Iconian rep... you know 40 days if you dont have a sponsorship token from another tune not counting grind time for different sets from that reputation.

The ships not free, its costs you a whopping, umm lets see here l. 10 min x 15 days.. somewhere around 3 hours of your time total over an entire month... that your going to be in STO anyway right.

I'll bet you spend more time being a chat warrior in the forums or in game then you spend on rep grind.

On top of which taken in its own right, its quite a tasty little dish of a ship stat wise. Not for everyone mind you, But then hey.. go risk being semi social, grind it out one one toon.. any of the rest of your toons can get it.

10 stinking lousy minutes out of your day you woulda wasted on BS anyway to get a tier 6 specialist ship with a twist.

I'm not exactly crazy about it being a Ferengi ship.. I was really hoping for some sweet little Risian exploration/safari/science cruiser with pilot seating myself... and a bridge... We get a bridge with the new ship that has great utillity, and I do want the bridge, but I note for the record, it's retread!

And that is really the only downside to the ship is its using an older bridge, instead of having a new one, or a remake of the older one..

look at some of these images and think about what could be done with a luxury civilian starship bridge and main cabin off the bridge
