STO players are a rare breed, however. Even those people who open multiple hate threads on the ship will most definitely grind it out. Because it's free. And again, I highly doubt they would change the mechanics to hurt their numbers. A lot of calculation went into this, you can be sure about that.
I couldn't disagree more. It feels more like a new game-philosophy-from-above (parent company) that they were just told to implement in some way.
if there were 3 ships at this event people would play to get 3 ships, and play with them, and many would outfit them to varying degrees, and so on.
but maybe they felt risa was stale, and didn't want it showcased so much. who knows. but I do know for sure, they turned down more player time and zen sales for some reason. that's strange. but whatever, hopefully they are rolling in cash so it doesn't matter, and the game will keep going.
I swear, STO players are the only people that never heard of or had to deal with "limited time events"...
Meh. Exclusive items fall into two major categories, combat and non-combat, and the combat category breaks down into two more, useful and (effectively) useless.
Non-combat items, such as costume skins or party poppers/horns, are fine as exclusive items.
Useless combat items are fine as exclusive items, but because they're useless one is left wondering why they're exclusive in the first place. Most event ships seem to fall into this category, including the two Risian ships.
Useful combat items, such as a Cochrane, really shouldn't be exclusive. It's unlikely few players are cognizant of the tweaking ground content regularly experiences. Yes, behind the scenes they're actually balancing around things like the shotgun. Items like this should either be located in the C-Store, or as a mission reward.
Ultimately, very little is worth making exclusive. I still occasionally see party poppers used in ground queues, and you can regularly spot less common tailor options in places like ESD. That's about as much exclusivity with regards to acquisition as I like to see, especially because so much of the combat-related stuff is considered to be second rate, most of it even as its being released.

Exclusivity!
This is my Risian Corvette. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
I swear, STO players are the only people that never heard of or had to deal with "limited time events"...
^These two statements sum it up cleanly.
This was _not_ exclusivity based thing, it was something else.
There's room in this game for limited time ships and items. It's easy, build something, make an event (or use an existing one), promote the hell out of it with advertizing and email-bombs, etc etc. Do it well before the event to build up excitement. Have the event, people get their stuff (those who want it) and done!, goal met.
That did not happen. Here's what happened.
Right before the event this came out -->> "Oh yeah hey ... um ... those ships are gone now, we want to make collectors items things now... so yeah, ah ... your welcome!"
But are they truly limited? Can new characters on an account claim them? If these ships are all [now] limited (I remind people this has simply been a change, recently made by Cryptic) then by default, shouldn't the Breen ships also be annually exclusive - if you miss one of them one year, you're sh*t out of luck?
To my understanding, yes. I'm assuming they are going to do this for the Breen ships also. Retiring them before the winter event starts later this year and come up with a completely new ship.
I'm also assuming they are doing this from now on, meaning, next year the Ferengi Warship from this year's summer event probably won't be available to get, and whatever this year's winter event ship is it won't be available next year. So get it now or never get it at all.
I don't know why they decided to take these ships off the market. Maybe to make them truly exclusive. And at least another Risan ship related to the event would have been nicer. That Ferenghi ship doesn't look nearly as cool in the water as the luxury cruiser or corvette.
But this ship exclusivity deal is nothing compared to people like me who did the extra work on the pearls last year, only to get the rules changed for the event 2 months out. Now that's a real "TRIBBLE you."
I have gotten the new ship on Risa on one toon. Now the project is not available on my other toons. Is this a glitch or susposed to be this way?
If you mean the Nandi, then this is working as intended, check your alt's event store/account reclaim tab the new ship should be available for free there.
I like that idea the best, or make them a permanent vet reward or LTS perk as a distant second favorite idea.
Indeed. To cut us off cold turkey just a short while before the Summer event was quite abrupt and left a bad taste in our mouths... I do hope it's not the end of those ships. Sure could use some nifty - or should I say Trendy - vouching on our behalf.
My prediction remains that they'll put the old ships back next year, when it turns out removing them didn't somehow magically make players play the event more after all.

Yeah I still don't understand this. Anyone who wants an old ship would probably try to grind 2-3 characters through the ship event to get all the ships. 2 or 3 is more than 1. It isn't like flying high takes that long.
Favors are the only other thing to grind out there, and because nothing is account bound, the fewer characters you bring there, the less you want of that stuff.

Aim at foot, pull trigger.
I already had 3 Toons ready only for this Event.
Making them a VET or LTS ereward does not seem to be the right solution. I don't think anyone is goingt to buy a LTS just for those ships and they are still not avaialble for new Players.
The Best way would be to put them in the c-store. Who cares about exclusivity? There are already many Players with those ships so its far from being exclusive like the Lobi ships. And they could make money with them. Money is better than exclusivity

Account wide event rewards. One reward bundle per account for, say, the MU event. Probably not even with account wide participation.
But not with those rewards.
I was looking forward to getting the two Risian vessels. Now I'm resigned to never getting a Cochrane.

Yearly events are truly limited time events. You can only run them at a certain time of the year.
How many years have the Breen and Risian ships been available? More than one. There goes your exclusivity and limited time events.

I agree. I wanted to get all 3 ships this year because last year i didn't have time for the Summer event.
THey should put them in the c-store at least for some time or forever. Every ship for 2500 Zen.
So:
Old Players get them for free if one toon unlocked them before
New players and everyone else can buy them
Seems like a good solution
