Enterprise d, voyager and the defiant all launched crafts during combat and they where all called "ships".

They launched craft while they were in a combat situation but you misunderstand.

They did not launch craft with the intent of using them as combat craft,
That has never occurred, so my point stands as there are no Starfleet vessels in canon designed use Auxiliary craft in an offensive way.

"Ships" is a very general term any vessel regardless of size origin and power can be called a ship.

Humans and Lions and Penguins can be all called "Living Biological Organisms" so why do we have the names "Human" or "Lion" or "Penguin"?

So we can differentiate between them, hence why we call Flight Deck Cruisers "Flight Deck Cruisers" and why we call Dreadnoughts "Dreadnoughts".

In all seriousness this thread is more about the name flight deck cruiser over everything else.
The bulwark is a dread, scimitar is a flagship, their is are escort carrier. But they all have a single hangar that flight decks have.
Why not just remove the designation "flight deck" since it doesn't seem to have any bearing ?

The single hangar is not the only defining attribute of a Flight Deck cruiser, Escort Carriers are "Escorts" that have a single hangar bay, Flight Deck Cruisers are "Cruisers" with a single hangar bay, The Scimitar and Bulwark Dreadnought are "Dreadnoughts" with a single hangar bay.

In all honesty the "Ship type" like Cruiser or Dreadnought or Long Range Science Vessel are just lines of text under the name in our Status window, I don't pay any attention to them, I just fly my ship how I want.
