WARNING: *GREAT WALL OF CHINA OF TEXT*
Because I'm going to spend way too long talking about something that you devs do *really well* (in my opinion) that you NEVER seem to get credit for - something I can't believe I've never noticed until recently.
I just found out that Borticus is Kurland. It made me realise: the Devs' voice acting in this game is top notch. I mean that 100%, no joke.
I would like to state that many of the barks/fillers are used too frequently - "KURLAND HERE!" - but that's not relevant to my point. No, I'm talking about the *quality* of the voice acting.
I could be wrong, but I think we can tell when the devs are voice acting, because the samples/bites are usually mixed to a mid frequency. Michael Dorns voice, for instance, is quite bassy in the game. I imagine that Kurland could sound that tough if he were mixed the same way!
Not to be confused with the 'comms/radio' effect - I'm talking about the natural sound.
Dammit, I'm getting off track.
I've been playing a lot of different games lately (I usually just play STO and whatever Saints Row game I'm into at the time), especially other MMOs. Not because I'm quitting, and nobody can have my stuff.
Point is, it's REALLY obvious in MANY games that the VAs (voice actors) don't know a thing about what they're talking about.
This might sound weird, but a weird vocal inflection will do more to ruin my immersion than a CTD. Okay, maybe not quite, but you get the drift, surely.
For instance:
Imagine a non-scifi fan saying the line: "We have to reverse the polarities." Where does the accent in that sentence go? On the word HAVE? On the word REVERSE? POLARITIES?
Ideally, this sentence would have no accent (I don't mean like a British or American accent, I mean like "which word - or even syllable - is stressed/sounded the loudest?").
The devs, in my experience, rarely (if ever) accent sentences wrong when VAing. I've overlooked this for so long, because they got it right and it *didn't stand out*.
I'd also like to say that the Klingon female (yes I should know her name, just ignore that and read on please) in the most recent FE was PERFECT - Klingons should have a very very very minor lisp, because of their teeth. If you've noticed that Michael Dorn sounds different from the TV show, and couldn't put your finger on why - well, now you know.
Big ups to the Farek voice actor for this same thing, too - I hate her annoying voice in the EXACT way that I should. It just sounds so...utterly Ferengi.
Maybe some of those characters I mentioned weren't Devs (pretty sure Michael Dorn isn't!). I can admit that. But it doesn't change how I feel about the VAing that I'd ignored until recently.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that, in my opinion, the devs on this game are better voice actors than many actual voice actors, esp. in other games. And their (I assume) direction of the TV show stars seems on point, too.
So there you go, my friends (and also my ex-fellow trolls!) - one man's unimportant opinion of a thing, but maybe it will bring somebody some joy one day.
Anyway, I'm off to finish my research and find out who(m?) does whose voice!

And all that .
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Praising the voice acting for not sounding forced.
Is it that big of a deal? My personal opinion is that an interesting story matters far more than great voice acting, and I will gladly have more ships and longer FE's even if it means the devs need to save more on voice acting. Just please, for the love of Star Trek, don't argue that the devs are good VO's.
Cheers! /10char
They really need to re-record the Guardian of Forever though. So, so awful. The awfulness just burns hotter with every alt that is forced to experience it.
A universe was too small!
1. Re-record the Doctor (EMH) when he's not got a cold, and give him some coffee to get a bit of **oomph** behind his performance. (Well aware this is impossible, and I do love Picardo, but there was something missing in his acting for STO.)
2. Whoever voiced Taris/Admiral T'Nae has a distinctive voice and is being massively overused. She seems to crop up in every new episode and it's really obvious who it is.
Just my 2c. :P

No, not in their trek roles. New roles.
Think up something awesome.
