I'm going. I *might* come back if they fix the lag with powers but mainly if they fire cogent.
An otherwise okay game, but with this kind of lag it's just not worth the headache of constant rubberbanding when I literally do not get this -anywhere- else.
Good luck Cryptic I really hope you can fix it and coming back becomes worth it.
Odds are fair that Cogent's literally the only game in town; not everywhere has fiberoptics yet, and where you're served by cables, there is frequently by law only one ISP. For instance, in my neck of the woods, if you want high-speed internet you have Comcast. (Fortunately, we're served by the same Comcast division that served Tacoma, WA, and in Tacoma they put up their own municipal cable TV and internet access before it was made illegal. So if Comcast doesn't keep their service up, they know there are tens of thousands of customers who might just switch over to Click! instead. Yes, the "!" is part of the name.)
timewarner was recently swallowed whole by comcast, so i dunno what that does for a alot of people in the states, but in any event posting your frustrations on this forum her about cogent wont change a damned thing.
im in the uk and the big stinker in the room is BT, now they are recently involved in upgrading to optics to my area, im in a rural area which is fairly busy and half a mile from a main road between towns. however i would never, ever, ever trust BT for service at all.
luckily i dont have to put up with BT when i can go through the post office for significantly cheaper prices are far less bother. but i still have to put up with BT if they mess up the connections which i would not be surprised.

Los Gatos isn't exactly hickville. No they don't have one fiber company and a couple cheap personal level cable providers.
Los Gatos is one of the richest small towns in the US, has less then 30k pop... and is the home of Cryptic, Smashwords, Netflix and imageshack on the larger end of the pool.
I would say they have options. lol
Of course we all know the issue is simple... they are a few miles from Netflix and on the same connection... do the math.

Of course, they have options, but contracts are a pain to get out of. Therefore, Cryptic has to wait until their contract expires before they can find better options.

Your assuming they have a contract. I doubt they do. Not many companies paying for that level of bandwidth end up in contracts. Contracts are for plebs like you and me... well you really telco contracts aren't legal in Canada. (kidden... well there not, the pleb thing I mean lol)
It could be they have a contract... honestly though I doubt it. That isn't saying it wouldn't possibly be a massive pain to change their pipe provider.
But the server farm isn't in Los Gatos. I believe it's somewhere in Massachusetts or New York. Northeast, anyway.
mirrorchaos, breathe easier - the FCC refused to approve the Comcast/Time-Warner merger. Now Time-Warner's looking to absorb another company...
No doubt... the entire industry is a mess. Our telecom industry up here isn't any better either. None of the Telecom companies can really be trusted to ever do the right thing. All the junk with server sharing issues happens more then just the current public fights with netflix ect. As much as the gov can mess things up... in the case of the telecom industry I think its one place where all of NA could use some nice tight no wiggle room legislation.

The Time Warner/Comcast acquisition did not go through - Comcast pulled out. They're being acquired by Charter now. Comcast is a horrible company, and does not deserve even greater clout than they have now.

i dont know much about that, im not in the usa and i saw a news print about it yesterday for several sites. hmm, seems if true they are producing propaganda or just very slow.

They have contracts. No business gets service like that from another business without a contract, because a contract establishes rights and responsibilities on both sides. There's also the aspect known as the Service Level Agreement, in which Cogent, in exchange for the monies received, guarantees to have outages and other issues resolved in a certain amount of time, or else they pay penalties.
I work for a Fortune 400 and one of my current projects is setting up something in Toronto that happens to involve data connectivity. Believe me--there are contracts for things like this. The only time businesses work without contracts is when they order sandwiches for a lunch meeting--and then they're sad because there isn't a contract involved.
In 2014, the company was the subject of a proposed purchase by Comcast Corporation, valued at $45.2 billion; however, following opposition to the deal by various groups, along with plans by the U.S. government to try and block the merger, Comcast called off the deal in April 2015. On May 26, 2015, Charter Communications announced that it would acquire Time Warner Cable for $78.7 billion, along with Bright House Networks in a separate $10.1 billion deal, pending regulatory approval.

Id like some of what you're smoking please, large companies are even more bound to contracts than we are, even in Canada, the legislation you are talking about only covers non business entities, large companies are still bound by contractual laws, especially if they operate across borders. They will have separate contracts for different services from the cleaning company's they use in their offices to maintenance companies, to the company that supplies the water coolers and beyond including Internet services whether it is internet for the offices or connection for game servers. Most of those contracts will have a clause whereby if they cancel the contract before the renewal date they have to pay a substantial amount of money to "buy" themselves out of the contract unless they can prove the service rendered was not rendered up to the standard stipulated by the contract.
read the rest, ironically youre selective picking of my quote you missed the answer to what your going on about.
I wasn't "going on" about anything, though I do agree that CogentCo sucks and is a major detriment to this game (but not the only problem). It was the first and, until this one, only post of mine in this thread.
I "selectively picked" the untrue statement in your post and left out the rest as it was unrelated to the correction. True, you may not have been in the know of that information for whatever reason, and it had been assumed pretty much by everyone (to their dismay) that Comcast would swallow it up until this update. I'm just pointing out the latest changes in news/current events about the Time-Warner acquisition (VERY latest, since the last bit occurred Tuesday).
