I like the powerboard racing, but I'd really love to see the course lay out change from race to race.
Theres a lot of room out there to play with the course layout if you don't limit the finish line to where it is. Have the finish line markers and objects move so the course is always the same length. That'll give a lot more possible layouts to play with. The other thing to do is break up the rewards by class of board. It's Risa and its about having fun. Let be fair to those who don't want to pop a grand for one of the top end boards. Don't worry.. the sight of someone shooting out a head will drive board sales! The Risa grey market will thrive.
I multiplayer floater course along the same theme could also be fun for those interested, though possibly more work.
Do Add Dept:
Throttle control of some sort for the boards.. and a timed "turbo mode" Do it like the boost in motorsports. It would be a press and hold to sustain, but you've only got so much of it. Look at how long it would take to run the course if it were a strait line. Likely no more then 10% of course time time would be the total time availible in the boost pool. A player has it untill they run out. If you introduce multi lap races. 5 laps is easily sustainable for most players. If someone goes off course they have a VERY VISIBLE timer to get back on the course before a disqualification and a DNF. It shouldn't be that difficult to even have markers pop up for just that player showing where they must re-enter the track. A short pathfinder command might be incorporated (for those of us who forget how to walk, run drive,steer.. wander about aimlessly). Multi lap races, have a better payout as long as you finish!
Well, maybe some of the above might be used, or cause inspiration.
you'ld be surprised what they can sneak in at the last moment IF it's fairly simple to do. different course layouts that rotate through from race to race should be pretty straitforward. Multi lap races again fairly simple. The Boost idea might be a little difficult, but its a Risa use item only.
Always try to encourage. Especially if its creating fun stuff. There will always be days where you want to go socialize and not grind.. ANd if we're gonna grind.. find way to keep it interesting, and if at all possible changing a bit.
I always like mission content that doesn't always play out quite the same. Not many studio's try it. Non "serious" content is a good way to build the skill to really do that sort of thing.. and possibly more importantly.. the mind set.
Adding a whole new mini game, that takes a awhile, but creating some variations on with you all ready have made is always easier.
-Role Play moment!
Just think of the fun you'll have explaining to your Vulcan friends that competing in a race over water on devices of questionable stability and controllability at speed exceeding 100 KPH with minimal safety equipment is fun! And then get those highly competitive emotionally repressed green blooded over achievers out on a track... Trust me, you don't want to miss this opportunity!
I support the part about different "categories". Make these categories based on which board is equipped at race start. The higher the division, the better the rewards. Ideally, winning 1st in your division should reward enough to purchase a board in the next division up.
Beginner's Division (rented or free board)
Class 1 Division
Class 2 Division
Class 3 Division
Elite Division (Faction Boards)

I really like this idea. It means people without better boards wouldn't be absolutely screwed, and would have a chance. So at that initial cluster of people, all the higher divisions would speed off, but the lower divisions would go against each other.
I only really see two issues with that:
1. Board switching. A person starts on a junkier board, then switches right after the start of a race to a better board to have an easy win.
2. Too many favors being generated. Letting first place earn that many favors, especially at higher categories, is probably not something they want. Favors can be used to buy the eggs, which in turn can be raised as the birds, and those birds can be turned in for marks, and said marks can become dil.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Maybe even a accolade for the fed and KDF players crew lounge or ready room.. And Rom capatains for the captains cabin, though honestly it would make an awesome crew lounge decoration on RR ships, or in the captains day room off the bridge.
Classic front third of a board Risa Division 3 Champion Summer 2410.
And if they ever get serious about the racing mini game competition maybe someone will find them selves noted as
" Galactic Power Board Champion, Risa Pro invatational 2410" (use a split front board and hang flowers off it)
There is a vulcan/romulan board... don't forget that exists or there's a bunch of RR delta that got made that might end up hunting you down and hurting you! Remember the RR is only allied with the Fed and KDF... technically they are independent.
I like social event and area's in the game.. it does help remind players of the "this is why we do that" Role play as fun is a waste if you don't "get into" your character your portraying. Our character have off duty lives..
I like how Risa is availible to players all year long..then the Risa SUmmer event comes up and you get special things to do. Of course, my favorite thing to do would be to have it, and its events availible all year long.. The Annual ship is a special.. that becomes availible during the normal event period but have everything else continue to run.
I'd like it if Q's winder wonderland did the same (hey, just move entry doors to Andoria, Rura Pente, and as a destination on the new romulas transporter system.. All goes to the same map.. but if ya wanna go there in the "off season" you'll have to make your way there.
I love my Icy Boots. Waiting for them to figure out how to add a ski game... I never really have liked the foot race on ice. Dog and Targ and Selat winter sled racing maybe? (warguls if yer wierd) come on.. nobody runs on Ice unless they have to!..
*looks at all the above that he has typed*
Ok, my coffee has definatly kicked in.. time to go do stuff!

True on the second point, however, there could be a check that when you cross the finish line, you have to be using a board of that division or lower. While it could still cause cheating, changing boards should consume enough time that it becomes impractical to do so.

Indeed. That, and sheer competition between people should help as well. After all, if everyone started cheating, then nobody is cheating since all people would be on the same level again due to that.
