Anyone remember smirks first twitch foray into delta quadrant

Gosh I remember that twitch stream when he was showing the "new intelligence" ships... took such a long time to kill things .... And I remeber lots of peeps giving him advice on how to build a boat!!! ..... And all of us ..well atleast me felt he didn't know how to build a ship.... Oh well apologies in retrospect smirk.

    No not really. His setups are notoriously horrible. ^^

    The one time I watched him run something, I was astonished by the level of terrible his build had managed, the piloting didn't seem much better.

    Actually he specifically used those builds because they weren't decked out in the greatest and shiniest. He wanted to show people the actual ship itself.

    I've seen his personal account builds which are far different.

    I say the same thing every time this subject came up. It's wasn't his job to show everyone the best builds, it was his job to show off the ships.

    When you consider buying a car you don't expect the dealership to have it fully tuned for a track day do you?

    While I respect that as a notion, seeing him using the ships did not make me WANT them.

    There is a way to use the consoles from the ship as a set item to show them off while making the ship look good in every way possible. Had this been done I have no doubt that more would've got the ships instead saying, oh look it blows up easy.

    Funny analogy, as cars that get shown off are still in the equipment you get them with, rather than any modular options available to the consumer to augment them with, which is analogous to any equipment that you put on your ship later on, after you unpack it.

    By that analogy, the CM should only show the ship in the shape it comes as out-of-box without any other items at all - which is far worse than the condition that Smirk actually had it in.

Stuff like mixing dbbs, beam arrays, cannons, torps, and mines into a build and then as though that's not bad enough using terrible boff abilities to go with it. His JHSS stream was a prime example of this.

    If someone is going to do a stream to show off a ship the least they could do is properly equip it, not with all epic items but at least use items that go together to make a proper build.

    Maybe he did so to show off all possible weapon hardpoints and how a few abilities work with the ship?

    Pretty much this... I saw those streams and thought to myself "WTF, this dude makes Brandon look like a master ship builder".

    This is silly.

    There is a lot of space between "Mk 14 gold best gear in the game" and what Smirk was doing.

    A *lot* of space.

    He could have used the consoles that came with the ships, picked cannons or beams, picked an energy type, and worked from there.

    Instead he appeared to choose gear absolutely randomly, as if builds were pieces of abstract art.

    It's like going to a house shown off by a realtor. They don't just get whatever free furniture they can find on craigslist, splatter all colors of paint on the wall and have a muddy dog run around everywhere to keep buyers from having "unrealistic expectations." They don't buy the most expensive furniture from Tiffany's either. They just use some common sense within a budget.

    ...adding, what's up with people on these forums and equating "doing anything at all to try to win" with "dps everything to oblivion"? Why do some people take pride in being bad at this game?

    The best place to outline a basic, successful build is in the video promoting the new ship.

    Possibly use various STFs for demonstrating it, so that you can also highlight STF tactics or tips.

    Showcasing idiocy will only encourage idiots to follow. In the short term it might push sales of and investment into noob bait, but in the long term it plagues your queue system with added frustration.

    I have no idea how much this affects what I see people doing, but it surely doesn't help that default builds on ships and the builds cryptic sets up in Step Between the Stars and Sphere of Influence simply don't make sense.

    Not necessarily, as many dealerships, do in fact have automobiles altered with extra goodies but, still don't go and dog on it to show it off to customers.
