it's not just them though, it's also all the people that purchased those keys and tried (unsuccessfully) to acquire one of those ships. If, all of a sudden they can create a Cardassian and fly a Galor that way, I doubt many of them will be all-too happy about it.
Why not? Seems the people who tried (unsuccessfully) to get the Galor from a lockbox would be the ones most happy to be able to obtain a Galor, along with at least 6 other unique Cardassian ships, simply by playing a Cardassian character through 15 or more unique Cardassian missions before merging into the content that's been rendered faction agnostic. Your reasoning here is a little strange is all.
No, the poster you were responding too was right. It's only players who currently own a Galor who have anything to arguably lose by Cryptic making the Galor a standard part of the Cardassian ship line-up.
The more I think about this personally, the more it seems like all Cryptic needs to do is rename the Lockbox ship to the "True Way Galor" and in the same news post you talk about the Cardassian faction existing, and mention that Cardassian lockboxes will no longer be added to the game. Overnight the value of the "True Way Galor" doubles as it's supply is capped to whatever currently exists and it gets the rare opportunity to become as scarce and prestigious as a limited time event ship. Similarly weapons and items from those boxes would become more value, but that's going to be a separate issue.
To be fair, Romulan expansion only got Romulans, Remen and Aliens ;P
Well, to be fair, there are signs that the devs were at one time planning to make Acamarians and Suliban part of the Republic. but as one blog mentioned, the story for the republic doesn't work right for those races.
what does this say of the Dominion? Well.... we'll get what the story calls for. If it calls for a plucky band of misfits who have been exiled from the real Dominion.... yeah.... Or maybe it might be written from the point of view of the Founders getting ticked at the Iconians and deciding to join the alliance. In that case the player would be someone from the Dominion that the Founders choose to send as a liaison to the Alpha/Beta quadrants. In that context almost any race associated with the Dominion would work.
So ? They don't have to release the hypothetical "Cardassian Faction Galor" with the same BO-Seating etc ...
PS : I seriously doubt "Dominion" & "Breen" would even be part of the new Faction ... since playing "the bad guys" is out of the question ...
Well, the current Dominion has Odo as part of the Great Link. Also the Breen FE series makes it clear that the Breen government did not support Thot Trel's attempt at capturing the Preserver Archive. Well, that's their official stance, anyway, hard to verify it's accuracy or inaccuracy. But the game seems to treat the enemies you fight from both groups as rogue agents and not part of their regular military... mostly. Rapier is an exception. That one DOES have the actual Dominion military as the bad guys... but... that seems like a minor isolated incident. the player takes out several Dominion ships and the Founders didn't really seem to care...
Err, mate, you're off on your price by three zeroes. Cheapest Galor on the exchange is currently 162 million. JHDC is 95 million, JHHE is 157 million, JHAS is 372 million, JHSS is 487 million.
The only lock box ship you will ever get for under 50 million credits is a Mirror Universe ship or the Kazon Raider.

Don't forget the Breen Exiles, you helped negotiate asylum for in that Arc... 'Liberated Breen' anyone?
You forgot the Malon garbage truck. :P
That seems perfectly understandable, I've seen one and I wish I could forget it...

One reason why I'm in favour of Cardies as c-store species is that one could simply include one Galor in the bundle. Cardassian char + char bound Galor + whatever costume unlocks. Done.
There is no automatism for a new faction. Cryptic already struggles to release Klingon and Romulan faction specific versions of whatever new Fed toy is released.
Or let Cardies follow the Ferengi example. They have to buy a proper ride off the exchange, too.
I'd rather have new races for each existing faction. Cardassians for Fed, Talarians for KDF and maybe Suliban for Rom.
Another idea for how to appease current lockbox ship owners if they release an actual Cardie faction: make the Cardassian lockbox ship an account-wide unlock.
Yep. If we go this route, they should NOT be allowable for KDF. After what the Klinks did to Cardassia, which was not only unjustified but gave Dukat an opening to bring the Dominion in and TRIBBLE over the Union and ultimately the whole quadrant, the only Cardassians who would side with the Klingons are probably scoundrels and war criminals trying to escape prosecution.
Perhaps if we went this route, the KDF could be given either a new species, OR, alternatively, female options for ALL species they currently have. Female Gorn, Nausicaans, and Letheans could be designed and introduced, so that it is no longer assumed that only Klingons, Ferasans, Orions, and aliens actually allow the females of the species off-planet.
I know this will be an unpopular forum stance but since we already have so many "fake" Cardassians (the parts are in the tailor, their main ship is in the game, they would be a protectorate), I would just like to see Cardassian aliens get a bit more support in the tailor and a Lobi costume unlock of Cardassian military armor. Maybe both the TNG and DS9 versions. We could always have stories which center on the Cardassians but I think new playable species without their own faction are probably just best handled by enhancing alien options and maybe eventually just making everyone into a pre-made alien with an ability to modify their "Homeworld" trait, gain access to a limited starter quantity of exotic traits like Mindmeld based on initial homeworld selection, and improved premade costume templates for using existing species as a baseline.
People will always want to respec species so maybe the best solution is to phase out the concept of rigidly refined species in favor of selecting a few initial "hard to unlock" traits based on homeworld.
It seems to me like the easiest route in a game like this (and most lucrative longterm) is just to make everyone an alien, albeit maybe one with limited starting options.
So that when I select human, it defines my initial trait pool but I can acquire other species traits one by one and their costume pieces in bundles. Maybe a fee to break slider restrictions and get full alien customization. But setup in such a way that anyone can work to become a fully custom alien with all species options, all traits, a choice of "Homeworlds" (only one active at a time), etc.
The solution is pretty simple.
No no faction, since Cryptic can't even keep the existing factions going. Its either Fed or scraps.
Imagine how much worse it gets with even more factions.
Make a single big faction where everyone ends up at endgame, and have the other factions as a kind of development story, meaning where does the character come from, what she experienced in the past etc
That way you can have new factions and concentrate the dev time to a single faction at the end where people actually spend their money. And since it includes everyone, also less strain on the dev resources.

I miss schpocks. He knew enough to keep you guys bolstered, and ready to fight for your individuality. Go put your feddie bear uniform on already.
I don't think you have to appease lockbox cardi ship owners, the only problem I see in my opinion is if they add a cardi playable faction is that "enemy/other" factions have access to one of their ships.
They could add a mirror/faction lockbox that could contain a fed/KDF/rom ship.... Whatever the equivalent to the cardi ship is...... Or a separate lockbox for each..... All of them none cloaking..... And throw in a battle damaged skin....
