Are these two totally different things? Would a grav scientist doff effect the torpedoes grav rift?
Been looking and can't find anything about the doff and torpedo, anyone knows for sure I would appreciate it.

The Gravametric torpedo produces a 'Gravametric Rift'. The Gravity Well ability creates a 'Gravity Well'.
So as the poster above me mentioned, no not the same. But these things abilities do work fantastically well in combination.
A gravimetric rift produces a very week pull effect on its own. But when multiple rifts are present in a small area the combined pull can create a hilarious spin cycle of death.
The trick is to boost a regular gravity well with graviton generators to increase its size. (20km from side to side is doable with true dedication). Suck up the largest number of enemies you can into the well. Lay on some AoE damage resistance debuff with destabilizing resonance beam, ionic turbulence or attack pattern beta (combined with FaW or Scatter volley for AoE). Then send in the Gravametric torpedo Spread.
Unlike many AoE damage powers gravimetric rifts and gravity well have a limitless number of targets. By clumping as many enemies together as possible you ensure you get the largest possible number of torpedo's out of your spread (which is limited). Every individual torpedo has a chance of creating a rift so you end up with a large number of tightly packed rifts all doing damage to all of the enemies. This multiplication effect allows you to parse some very high numbers, whilst the enemies spin around rapidly in a deadly dance of warp core breaching beauty.

Totally different. One scales with aux, part gens, and grav gens, another doesn't. One's affected by doffs, another isn't. They have similar effects, and make a great combo, but that's about it.

Thanks for the response. Had a feeling that was the case.
Normally run an Armitage so I don't have access to gravity well, just wanting to make sure I am getting the most out of my torpedoes

Theres nothing quite as fun as sucking a load of ships togethor with GWIII, then dropping a torp spread grav torp on them all. Usually get a LOT of extra rifts pop up
It's a great combo indeed, just love it when they go about in circles and popping eachother with them warpcore breaches Red Alert for instance - Spheres and Probes mobs, with that combo, they're done before you can say "lol"

No the DOFF does not affect the Grav Rift produced by he Grav Photon Torp.
