Is anyone "in the know" on release dates for these Star Trek fan made productions:
1) Star Trek axanar
2) Star Trek renegades
3) Star Trek continues (may ish)
If Prelude to Axanar is the test film for Axanar, then they will beat the pants off of Renegades. The production quality seems better, the writing seems better, and Axanar is striving to tell a story with new characters (outside of Garth, of course). Shoe-horning Chekov into Renegades, though? Meh.
Axanar is just coming through pre-productiong (set-building, casting, etc.) and has only had the script "locked" three weeks ago.
Next phase is production, but before that goes ahead, there is the next Kickstarter to kick off on June 1st.
If you wanna keep up with what';s going on, they have a weekly podcast (iTunes, stitcher, all those services) and a daily "Captain's Log" on www.startrekaxanar.com
Renegades won't be picked up. They have been trying for years. Why not release it?
Tim is likely trying to make it an official thing, as if his celebrity status means more.. or those who he worked with on the whole thing.
why not release it as fan made? because he probably wants recognition that renegades as canon and that his work could give the crew hopes of buying more into the trek tv series angle. releasing it as a fan made will only give him some priase for a few weeks and then like every other film, just vanish into obscurity until someone recalls it a few years later.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Just stumbled upon Axanar and I've gotta say, it really looks promising. Looking foward to it.
These forums have resoundingly praised "Prelude to Axanar" for its story, acting, graphics, and overall quality appearance. I would note something I've not heard however: the music is terrific. Assuming it was not lifted from another source, I would wish that they'd release it for sale as well (or a free download if a sale would violate CBS's good graces with fan works.)
Prelude to Axanar looks fantastic, Star Trek Continues is fantastic ( Dr McKennah ) but Renegades, like the other stuff Tim Russ has worked on, frankly comes across as amateurish in comparison. If he's not careful, by the time it's released, other productions will have already set a bar which Renegades simply doesn't reach... It'll be a bit like the RedBull soapbox derbys where people do it for the fun and have a great time, but they'd not stand a prayer against an F1 car
Yeah I'm not yet sold on Renegade either (the released a scene didn't work at all). Axanar looks amazing and might might even become one of the better startrek movies if the prelude in any indication. I also love Continuous, those 3 episode are among the best of TOS.
Now I also found this guy Star Trek Horizon which also looks promising (he's also working for Axanar). Normally I'm not easily sold on CG sets, but it worked fine for that Galactica prequel movie and this looks just as good, if not better. Not to mention that I kinda like the fact that it's set in the enterprice era (not a lot of people dare to go there. )

Renagades, Tim Russ is waiting on cbs approval before it gets aired as he really hopes it gets picked up. so anybody's guess.
Star Trek continues - The white Iris releases 29th may.

Tim Russ will be waiting a while, I'm afraid.
