I did one of the Cardassian DSE's (you were scaled down to VA level) and the Galor-class in there had around 60,000+ hull. Just for curiosities' sake, I did the start of The New Link to compare it to FA. The Galor had 130,000+ hull in there. This is on Normal, incidentally. That probably means the FA Keldon would be pushing 150,000 (86,000+ at VA). That sort of hull strength is usually reserved for Dreadnought-type ships at VA.
I realise that this is basically me complaining that it takes too long to kill ships at FA when you're stuck with Mk XII VR gear, but I thought Normal difficulty wasn't supposed to be affected too much by the HP change? Doubling the hull strength seems like a lot.
Just buy 200$ worth of R&D packs and upgrade man! If you don't pay, they don't want you to play! Also buy 100$ worth of xp boosts while you're at it to level quicker! Xp is designed to be so low you must buy these.

Going from 50-60 took longer than getting from 1-50 in the first place.
I have three T-5U ships (Galor, Risian Corvette and Luxury Cruiser), but it is all, as mentioned, Mk XII VR stuff.

I do have a T-5U ship, but it's the gear that I feel is the problem (I don't play enough to have the dilithium resources to upgrade).
I didn't mean just the ship, but also the weapons and equipment. Upgrade the ship means everything involved. The ship itself going from T5 to T5U doesn't add much, but it helps. Weapons are the big thing, but survivability can be a problem, because having to chew through twice the HP means you are taking twice the damage because it lasts twice as long, but in fact you're taking more than twice the damage because NPC damage goes up too from 50-60.
People like to say you can do most things just fine with mk 12 weapons at level 60, and it is true. Yet, it takes far longer than it did at level 50 because you haven't upgraded. It is also more difficult because NPC damage has gone up, as has the time required to fight them, yet your healing has not gone up at all, and even upgrading you are not likely to see any real increase in your survivability beyond having a larger hull/shield pool to play with.

It is a peculiar phenomenon that we can imagine events that defy the laws of the universe.
+ an upgrade token for 700 zen
+ a new ship if you still use your level 40 ship
enjoy

yes, indeed, my recruits are stuck at 55.
i have always thought that the necessary amount of dil for the upgrades are ridiculous. the upgrades are too expensive.
