Looking for Tactical Carrier advice

Hi, I'm a returning player that hasn't been around since the Romulan expansion and I'm looking for some advice on getting my first carrier type ship as a Fed Tact captain. All of the new specialization skills, different classes and skill sets of new ships, (When did Destroyers arrive??) and Mastery system has me very much confused and lost with what I should go after.

After getting to 50 as a Delta R playing tactical for the first time, I can safely say I'm not a fan of Defiant-sized ships, although i definitely love the cannon power. I'm leaning more towards the fact that I'm a Cruiser guy more than an Escort one, something I know I shot myself in the foot with going Tactical, but live and learn i guess. (I'm not looking to scrap the toon btw) I am interested in "true" carriers first, although I definitely will listen to a strong argument for single deck ships. I have a good amount of Zen, enough Lobi's for even a 900 cost ship, and access to a fleet store. What i do not have however, is EC. Not even close to the 100+ mil ships i see there now.

Could I get some suggestions for the type of ship and associated basic loadout please? All help and opinions are appreciated for this guy that's been outta the game for a while.
Thanks!

The two tactical captain type carriers out there are the Aquatic Carrier and the Jem'Hadar Carrier. Both are tactical heavy. You said you liked cannons, I would not fly either with cannons, but it can be done if you like it. I think the Jem'Hadar carrier is cheaper on the exchange but it does not have easy to obtain frigates because you have to have the JHSS or JHAS to get them. They are good pets. While the Aquatic will be more expensive i would grab it due to the shear amount of pets it can use. The frigates are nice, and the primate fighters in elite version have FAW3. I always go for elite pets.

If you dont have the EC you can buy the most expensive lobi ship and cell it on the exchange. I will make a build and post it, need to know if you have access to the Phatom, because it has one of the most OP ship traits.

Here is the ship and how i would run it, for DPS.

Destroyers are merely Escorts with LtCdr ENG. The very first ship in the game with that game changing feature was the Akira. That came out in about 2012.

Thank you for the advice. I went with the Jem Dread and am loving it so far! Working on getting components as we speak.
