If you are new or creating a new toon, then yes, it's totally possible to level 60 just doing the episodes. However, I recommend doing your Doff'ing and a few STF's (Starbase 24 for Fed's is a good one) along the way also for better equipment.
Note however, that the XP requirement to level beyond 50 increases dramatically, so it slows you down a bit. You'll level quickly enough from 1 to 50 though.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
50 to 60 is about 1/4 the pace of 1 to 50. If you do the Delta Quadrant missions, starting at 50, you will probably get to around 53 and find you need to replay/grind content to unlock the next Mission, and so on. 50 to 60 is a LOT of replay grinding - and even more once you start dealing with expanded Specialization.
But my Delta Recruit is currently 52 and I just made it to the Cardassian arc, so he will probably see 60 even before I get to the DQ.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
No, you cannot level up to 60 just by playing story missions. Because of the massive increase in required XP need to advance after level 50. I think you don't start to notice it until around level 54.
Anyway, unless later story mission starts reward over 250,000 XP each, you are not going to level up to max level by playing story missions.
Personally, I do not race to level 60 as fast as possible. I just play the game and do whatever, eventually I will get to max level. Currently all my toons are level 60 with the exception of my Delta Recruit who is I think level 57 now.

Yes it is possible doing story missions, as my Delta Recruit is level 57 and just finished the Cardy/Jem'Hadar episodes.

Doubtful i will level more than 3/4 tho, cryptic makes it impossible with sll the grind
While I can understand this statement I can only ask what you were doing pre-Delta Rising and the level bump?
I know I was doing the same few things over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and... I was grinding just to play.
At least with DR, level 60, and Specialization Points I know I am grinding toward an actual game goal rather then just grinding because I have nothing else to do. Not a huge consolation but it keeps me going until I need to take a break.

On Elite, the first week of the DR launch - it was pretty easy to get from 50 to 60 doing the Story missions...running into the issue at 59 because they hadn't added one of the missions yet.
Now, lol/meh, I've spent longer getting from 54 to 56 than I did getting from 50 to 60.
65523 skill points left to 57...about 5.3/10 there.
534222 skill points to 60...
And from there, it gets into doing another 35 to max a Primary/Second Specialization...not including what would be required if you wanted the various traits or options from doing more.
While initially it was way too easy...zip...boom...done; Cryptic's done their typical heavy handed response to things instead of tweaking.
If your lv50 going into the Delta. Like the others said. You will start having to replay/grind around lv53. Doff will help speed up the process as well. Look for the ones that offer a lot of exp. That is the ones I do. Even with only 20 doff missions, I still get a nice chunk of exp.
Starting a new character. I hadn't gone that far yet. But it should be very possible to hit Lv60 by time you hit Delta. My Romulan did the new Borg/Undine arc, Romulan Rep, and almost done with the Dyson Rep. She is already at Lv55. So it can be done.

Cryptic said if its a new character you will get to 60 just from completing story content.
But if you are already 50 then no the new content wont get you there.

Think ill just do the stories and see how it goes, take some skill pool boosts etc
But does that exclude bonus XP events and XP gain from Doffing?
Don't forget the delta recruits and all others as well benefited from some XP bonuses along the way for making most of the Tier 3 DR global goals.
Not sure what level one reaches just by doing story missions since other things go on at the same time, such as DOFFing, STFs, etc.

It's just a brutal slogfest...
Yep, that means he's stepping into the warm up box, with his nerfbat.
