Does Iaidon mean "extra cheese" in iconian?

shinnok918shinnok918 Member Posts: 312 Arc User
every time I fight that stupid Iaidon in Grethor Im annoyed by the smell of rotten cheese. mainly the old vaadwaur artillery ship's escape measure...except for the Iaidon cant be outranged, and instead of calling in one extra ship it calls in a fracking fleet. by the time u get that thing beat after it senor scrambles u a half dozen times u have 30 seconds on the clock and another 15 ships or more to defeat. and that's on a good run.

I swear I used to think the tholians with the BFAW that shuts down weapons were the most annoying enemy in the game, or maybe the voth with immunity shields and aceton mode. but with the EMP probe spam, viral probes (at least those are canon), solar and oblivion gates, ships whose crews are so unskilled that their best attack is to ram you, and the Iaidon's plethora of abilities, the Iconians take that cake for the new chore.

so because it uses advanced tactics and most of the game doesn't that automatically makes it not fun anymore? lol.

because thats the vibe your giving off here.

however I have no problem with the "tactics" it uses, but I do think the queues should give better rewards.

Just avoid the probes, fly in circles around it and in arcs when approaching. Also BFAW solves everything.

I can't speak for elite, but in advanced I can just continue to fly circles around it and fire at it all day long. And that's with a slow TRIBBLE guardian cruiser!

Stay at distance and those disable probes are VERY easy to avoid.

It's not the artillery ship's escape method. That's a placate. The Iaidon is using the Vaadwaur dreadought's teleport from Battle of Korfez, just shorter ranged.

Not that hard to look around you, see where it is now and re-engage. Sometimes it doesn't even make it out of weapons range. And ignore the other ships.

Be happy it doesn't do a 20-30 km jump and pop off a salvo or two of star-killer torpedoes for you to chase down, like the Vaads do. ;)

i tend to avoid tholians no matter what, i hate fighting them because of their constant subsystem disable. i made that choice long ago.

as for the iconians, they got 1 or 2 more tricks, notably the heavy use of the solar gateway, which can take you out in a moments notice if you dont prioritize it accordingly. herlad fighting isnt anywhere near as annoying as fighting tholians.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.

The heralds are really cheesey for sure. I don't find fighting them enjoyable in the least, but overall I think they aren't as bad as the absurdly frequent Tholian weapon shutdown.

wrong. it does scramble sensors. ive seen the effect though..redundant sensors kicks in and the thing never disappears. it just instantly moves. it does sensor scramble. it does call in the whole fleet.

and also gravity well helps a LOT with the probes.

Oh God forbid there be any challenge in this game. Nope gotta keep it as brain dead as possible. They may as well have a "Please Check Brain at Door" disclaimer.

I hate, hate, hate unresistable placates. The Iadon disappears. I pop Sci Team. Does it reappear? Nooooo. Obviously, it's doing something else, then. But still annoying.

It's not using "advanced tactics." It's stalling for time. Which feels lame.

You're reeinforcing my concern that it's impossible to satisfy player's requests for "tactical" combat.

    Adding hit points? Lame.
    Adding defensive counters? Lame.
Enemy running or jumping away? Lame.
    Enemy with immunity shields? Lame.
    Enemy healing himself rapidly? Lame.
    Enemy cloaking himself? Lame.

So how is combat going to get more interesting for you? What kind of "tactics" remain, if the enemy is not allowed to bring any counters to your strengths?

Cheating AI is not good AI. Did anyone really like Donatra's impenetrable, uncounterable cloak? It serves only one purpose, to force the fight to be longer in the face of actual tactical use of BOFF abilities and make the use of those abilities by the player irrelevant.

However, the Herald dreadnaught doesn't actually jam sensors, it flat out teleports away, not like a Romulan dreadnaught which flies around in a perfect impenetrable cloak.

The issue is not "the NPCs have these powers". The issue is "players have no counter to these powers". What tactics does a player have if all they can do is grit their teeth and B:FAW until the NPCs are too dead to spam uncounterable powers?

pretty much. that's why I find the EMP probe thing so annoying. theres ways to stop them in the beginning, because all the ships are grouped together but once they are separated u can catch one or 2 of the 3 in the grav well.

here's where it got cheesy...doing a gre'thor one day I was the one pulling all the threat. and so I was getting zapped every second by a viral probe, and emp probe spammed to boot. not enough eng teams, batteries, and epw's to counter all that. forget BFAW because weapons were offline from either the first viral attack or emp probe, I forget which. dying was literally my only way out of the mess. I ended up dying because I simply couldn't do anything.

All you need is at least 1 person on a team with a good BFAW spam boat whether it be a cruiser or an escort. That takes care of the all the Iconian "pet spam" and leaves the rest of the team to focus on the dreadnought and other ships.

I am always ready for that with pugs, as my escort has a loadout for cannons, and for BFAW spam boat. So if no one else on the team has BFAW, I just switch my loadout for that, and the end usually goes pretty smooth.
A mind overrun with far too many alter egos. Caitians M'Grek and R'Rak, Ferasan M'Tas, Tellarites Gav and Gral, Bajoran Kira Mabrin, Liberated Borgs 7 of 11 and Six and Two and Ten, Reman Rakrikas... and far too many ships to even count.

The only thing thats annoying to me about the Heralds ships are the ones that ram you but take no damage themselves i mean those things seriosuly hurt and i cant hit BFI (Brace for Impact) fast enough.

    Those things need a nerfing

and the EMP spamming needs nefing aswell do they even have a cooldown?
I am serious i went in one run and every few seconds in talking aroun 5-6 seconds they would spam EMP probes.

the iconian probe droids? those are cool and it makes the fight interesting since there is so damn many that you barley are abale to fight.

but add the EMP spam and you might aswell just give up cause you cant fight you cant activate your skills so its a pain.

take out the EMP spam or slow it way down and the fight would be fun ...hard but fun as it is its annoying having the iconian probes spamming viral matrix on you every second or so and then having EMP spam keeping you that way.

LOL, the Heralds are about as dumb as anything prior. Just a few wrinkles. Nothing that BFAW can't solve.

If you like to sit close to an enemy these aren't the NPCs you're looking for.

I've discovered that ejecting warp plasma "at random" is actually a good counter to the probes since they have high evasion and low HP, as soon as they touch warp poo they explode. It's also pretty good for stopping the frigates from ramming you, since they get nearly immobilized when they touch it.

you can kill EMP probes by touching them. Sure you take some damage, but it's not much. Oh and Warp Poo works on them too.
