um, if you guys missed it, there is a shotgun, swords, lirpa, batleth and whip available....are you suggesting that we get rid of everything made before the 25th century just to satisfy your antiquiphobia? well then, by all means, lets get rid of the constitution class ship and all of the kdf/rom ships based on TOS, as well as the costumes, retrograde phasers and Klingon disrupters...heck, lets throw out everything that isn't brand new and shiny, even if it works better than the latest gadget.

You are completely ignoring the fact that we're still talking about a Star Trek game. Neglecting the stupid shotgun, swords, lirpa, bat'leth and energy whip are canon weapons and were shown to exist alongside energy weaponry as sidearms for situational use. Fitting starships with hopelessly outdated weaponry and expecting to be en par with it is a whole new level.
In general: No, "low tech" to counter adaptation and dampening fields also makes so nense, as regenerative and compression energy weapons both overcame these obstacles. Granted, canon itself forgot about that occasionally, but it still doesn't make any sense to start using bow and arrow again

it looks like the console for the microtorp from the pilot ships kind of fits the bill--or at least feels like a half hearted attempt to appease this request for kinetic cannon, which I do appreciate. would be nice if I could slot it on something other than a pilot ship though.....
