Some of the cutscenes are there to cover up for a zone/scene change.
The most obvious being Borg Disconnected; each cutscene covers up for the fact that the static scenery has been changed.
As well, it actually requires respawning of all NPCs and players (notable if you're lagging; the NPCs sometimes don't show up as they're still being loaded, though they begin opening fire on you). Also, the Borg NPCs that spawn just before the Voth supership shows up disappear after the flash, and sometimes don't even appear on that side once returning to combat, due to the system not registering them spawning before the cutscene.
Same goes for Herald Sphere when entering the gate into the Herald Sphere both times.
The reason they were able to avoid some cutscene between the warp and post-warp battle in Dust to Dust was due to using the warp effect background to hide the actual final zone map (the devs stated so themselves in a thread wanting a more interactive warp effect scene). However, they can't do the same with Herald Sphere and Borg Disconnected, to name a few mandatory cutscene zones.
Also, please allow ALL cutscenes (for those who played the missions 1000x already on plenty of alts) with the use of SPACE or ESC. Most are able to do so, but not all of them.. it's an odd thing.
